As far as I know the title is vacant so a Walters-Loma fight can happen for the vacant title.

But Team Loma has stated they want to go belt hunting - and in today's boxing belt hunting is NOT synonymous with fighting the best. Team Loma is cherry picking by using the belt excuse. The best at featherweight currently is Walters and no belt will change that. Lets see if Loma rises to the Walters challenge or cop out and pad his record with bogus title defenses.

Smith did nothing but piss away 50 G's. Like an idiot. A few extra lbs isn't gonna make a **** of difference. He has no chance. He's there to lose. So at least make all the $.

He probably didn't have a trainer, a nutritionist, etc., so he more than made up for the $50k lost by not being in shape. He's going to get some guy out of the crowd to be his cut-man.

Lomachenko has only four fights lol he's the opposite of a guy who pads his record.

Walters probably can't even make 126, he looked deathly skinny at the weigh in where he missed weight, it's obvious he's huge for the division and draining his body to make weight, time to move up. I don't blame Loma for not fighting a guy who no longer has the belt due to missing weight and clearly is fighting in a division too small for him.

I want to see the fight though myself, I was looking forward to it big time, but I can I can understand why not from Loma's perspective.

The fight would have happened if Walters made weight against Marriaga and defended his belt. If he made weight and successfully defended his title and Loma still didn't want to fight him, then yeah it's a duck. You're making assumptions that Walters could still make 126, instead of complaining you know what Walters should be doing? He should try to get in the ring ASAP, make 126 and try to recapture his belt. As of right now we don't know what Loma's goals are, that's his manager talking.

I remember Walters was the one that didn't want to fight a few months ago, not many gave him **** for that (neither did I because I don't make assumptions of a fighters being scared of another without any real reasons, for all we know he wanted to hype it up more).

How unprofessional of Smith. SMH. Completely out of shape. Ward will annihilate him.

Walters is growing out of featherweight, I agree on that, but I'm not going to just say Walters is no longer a featherweight based on 1 missed weight.

But overall I agree with you, the best way for Walters to shut up the critics is to get back in the ring ASAP at featherweight and not just make weight, but look good while making weight.

My thing is that HBO and TR at every opportunity shill that Loma is a wunderkind at boxing, nearly undefeated in the amateurs and 3 gold medals - the way they harp on how good Loma is (and he is good) I figure that Loma's skill should be good enough to handle guys that rehydrate up a few divisions. Maybe I'm wrong and I'm believing in too much the hype, but Loma comes with high expectations and to be frank he's not meeting my expectations.

                      Just read this now.

Seriously embarrassing. I don't know what to make of this other than a flabby Paul Smith will get knocked out in 10.
