The fight is a joke anyway!

Andre Ward's career has unravelled into a comedy so it's quite fitting.

The supposed P4P number 2 is fighting a guy coming off of two loses at a catchweight.
Paul Smith isn't even the best boxer in his family let alone the division. Andre Ward should be ashamed.

Ward DUCKED Froch that's a stone cold fact. He knows he needs tune up fights and he's very lucky Froch ******ly wanted to fight in Nottingham when he could possibly have made the fight in London! And now you've got Dre saying Froch didn't want the fight LOL.

I hope Ward gets sparked out with a lucky shot. He is a joke.

I'm a little excited for the fight. I'd root for GGG if they ever fought but people seem to have forgot just how good Ward is.

Plus Ward is from The Bay and it might be a hell of a long time till we get another truly great fighter.

Not sure why people are shocked by this. Smith is a limp opponent, who has lost his last two fights and has been stopped by green versions of DeGale and Groves.

Ward's cherrypicking and insistence on a catchweight has blown up in his face.

I wonder what Ward's goals are in boxing right now.

Does he want to get all the titles at SMW or to just fight tough opposition? Is LHW becoming realistic yet?

If he stays at SMW who would he fight for quality matchups aside from DeGale and Groves? Not sure if anyone wants Abraham II.

Only opponents at SMW I see for Ward are DeGale, Jack-Groves winner, and the Dirrell brothers. If Ward goes to LHW he could elevate his place in boxing history by defeating the Stevenson and/or Kovalev and if he beat both before they face each other then that would be historic.

I'd say its fairly obvious why he opted for Smith - he's cheap and has a reasonable following in the UK. Any other 'name' at SMW would want Ward's titles on the line and fair compensation for the catchweight.

I fully expect Ward to stop Smith tonight, but it won't be a statement fight. Groves and DeGale beat this guy - years ago.

As you note, Ward needs to make his mind up about what he wants now. If he's going to stay at 168, he should be looking at DeGale or Dirrell (although the former will be difficult to make if Groves beats Jack) or making it known, genuinely, that he wants to stop the GGG express.

If he's moving up, he can get a shot straight away at a 175 belt holder. Enough of this BS.

If Ward beat both Stevenson and Kovalev, it would also be a miracle.
