Comments Thread For: Andre Ward Speaks On Layoff, Thoughts of Retirement

Anyone who thinks that Andre Ward enjoyed spending any part of the past 19 months on the sidelines would be sadly mistaken.

Such a belief would also have to come with rationalizing why a reigning World champion—one considered by many to be no worse than the second best fighter in the world—would want to sacrifice the best years of his career. You’d then also have to rationalize why he would do so following a 14-month break from the sport, which followed a nine-month absence, both of which were spent rehabilitating separate injuries.

Part of it was your own damn fault. There were times you could have fought but choose not to.

Apparently you didn't read the COMPLETE article clown. Like the rest of us, you were on the OUTSIDE looking in and as Ward stated in the article the rest of us did not have the FULL STORY!!! He sought counsel and made an educated decision to take the path that he took.

At the end of the day, it's his career, not yours or mine. He is privy to details that you and any other presumptuous prick will not have access to. Neither you or me knew the particulars of his legal issues with Goossen but he and his camp were comfortable with their decisions even though Ward had to suffer a layoff as a result.

Wow, reading really is a lost art...

He didnt explain anything in that article but one thing that came through is it was self imposed, like the poster said, and you acknowledge. So not sure why so upset

It will be good to see if he can regain his earlier form. This will tell us what he is capable of doing at the top again.

Ward ain't ever making 168 again. He's officially a Light Heavyweight.

Typical Ward. Dancing around in circles and not doing very much else. He didn't explain a damn thing other than he wanted his fans to see him and be able to reach out and touch him. This guy is really full of himself.

No, but reading your response tells me that thinking is.
