WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs) is less than week away from his scheduled return. Ward, who's been out of the ring since November 2013, is back in the ring on June 20th against Paul Smith at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. The fight will headline Roc Nation Sports' first televised event on BET.

Ward is returning on a new network, with a new promoter, and a rugged opponent. But, most fans are more fixated on Ward's return weight. The fight with Smith is taking place at a catch-weight of 172-pounds.

I said this years ago.

Ward is too smart to flitter around weight classes.

Mayweather does it as the smaller man, so it doesnt affect him.

When Ward moves up, he will be moving up permanently, not jumping up for one fight or whatever.

I tried to tell people this, when Ward fights Kovalev, he will he a LHW.

So ward is the only fighter that can't move up and down in weight? By his own logic,since he is already fighting at 172,there's no going back down to 168.

He was 173.5 two weeks ago; if the fight had been scheduled for 168, Ward was in the position to have a full three weeks to come down 5 pounds. troll

Dawson was the one, yapping about how he'd come to 168 to see Ward; Ward obliged him. When Team Golovkin was running their mouth about about being the best fighter 154-168, so Ward tried to oblige them as well; Team Golovkin wasn't really about that life, so they ran like scalded dogs.

Sergey Kovalev walks into the ring for his fights near 190 pounds (exact range is in question, but Kovalev weighed in right at the IBF +10 pound limit for the Hopkins fight and likely added on more weight after that).

There's no reason why, other than being a heavyweight, a fighter should ever give up 20+ pounds for a fight. hate if you want.

Ward is 31, Kovalev 32, and GGG 33 not much of a difference there to single one guy out and call him old.

Golovkin fought 400 amateur fights, Kovalev fought 200 amateur fights, Ward fought 120 amateur fight; to add to that, Ward has basically had two years where his body took no in-ring damage as a pro.

To put all three guys into the same pot is a bit disingenuous too.

He didnt make Chad Dawson go down, Chad said he would come down for the fight. Also Ward was a full fledged Super Middle-Weight at the time not considering a move up. This is a different scenario.

Get you facts straight. Ward didn't "made" Dawon to go down, Dawson was willing to do it and said he hasn't got problem with it.

CSAC does indeed do a good job. They reported Ward/Rodriguez pulling in an amazing $277,374 for the gate from the 4,158 people who came. Outstanding draw!
