The first heavyweight title fight to ever take place in Alabama ultimately proved to be a huge success, even if journeyman Eric Molina did everytything in his power to spoil the homecoming for Deontay Wilder.

A sold-out crowd of 9,347 at Bartow Arena in Birmingham—less than an hour from Wilder's hometown of Tuscaloosa—was ultimately given the ending it craved, as Wilder scored four knockdowns en route to a 9th round stoppage. Molina provided a brief scare along the way, when Wilder was buzzed a bit more than he let on afterward when Molina tagged him with a shot in round three.

Oh no, not another voluntary fight for wilder.
Im not hating but molina was the worst boxer to get a shot in recent time and that says alot.
But wilder is known for fighting bad oppenents his whole career.
    Let's hope povetkin is next!
Should be a very exiting fight

Deontay isn't required to start negotiations with Provotkin until Oct. So if he wants another fight before, I think its time for a Tony Thompson fight. The Stiverne win was a good one. But Thompson is the gateskeeper in the heavyweight division. And he can definitely beat, and maybe even KO the Deontay that fought last night.

Is he going to fight someone with a pulse ? you might as well hang a heavy bag in the center of the ring and call it a title defense

I did not watch the fight I haven't seen his name mentioned. Is Mark Breland still involved with Wilder?

Wilder brings excitement to, a sometimes boring, division. And I like what they're saying with "4 fights a year." That's exactly what Deontay Wilder needs; stay busy and develop into a more complete fighter. The reason why their looking for a 9/26 return is: Wilder is still a work in process and is not entirely ready for Povetkin. If they can get another good training camp in and another fight, that only prepares him for the tough Russian.

I think they'll select Thompson, Lucas Browne, Chris Arreola or Mark De Mori
