Nobody gets hit on the face on purpose!

This is combat. If you run all day and try not to get hit like Lara and Mayweather (late version) you are fighting for a points win. Pressure fighters, sluggers, puncher-boxers know they will get hit as they get their own punches in. So it is not a case of getting hit in the face on purpose but more a case of taking one step backwards (taking a punch) to move 2 steps forwards (land a more devastating punch).

Good win by Walters against a game kid like Marriaga, but my concern is that Walters rehydrated all the way up to 145 pounds in fight night, which is ridiculous and absurd. Marriaga came at a fairly normal 135. It was like watching a welterweight fight a lightweight in there. It is clear Walters is too big for this weight class and he kills himself to make weight. These sanctioning bodies are a joke for allowing things like this to happen and not doing anything about it. They should make a rule where a fighter can only rehydrate 10 pounds or less on fight night, a rule that would be fair to both fighters. Walters needs to move up in weight and fight guys his own size.

A re-hydration limit with a fine for missing is a great idea, the problem is the practicality of applying it. All 4 of the sanctioning bodies would have to do it at the same time for it to work. It can't be introduced by a country as fights will not get made in that country to the same extent. Unfortunately some boxer (s) will need to die in the ring before change is made.
I agree Walters looked great but the size difference was advantageous for him. Marriagi looked a very useful fighter - I would like to see him matched up with Selby and I would have him down to give Selby all kinds of issues.

Great fight, two highly skilled fighters throwing vicious punches. Both hurt each other, both had moments but Walters investment to the body broke the smaller man down for the later rounds.

Those Walters body shots were vicious. I was cringing every time he landed one, you know those hurt bad.

It did feel like the size made a huge difference.

Fight night weights........

This was a great fight. I picked MM for the upset in my fantasy picks. These fight night weights are killing the sport. How can no one higher up, not do something about it? If Walters weighed the same as MM, he might have been dropped as well. MM punches hard and hit him with KO shots and Walters wobbled but was able to take them due to the weight. Why is this legal? Something has to be done, ASAP! I felt the same about Lomo and Salido. Take away the huge weight advantage and lowblows, Lomo wins easily. Walters didn't prove anything last night and Lomo WILL beat him. They are on different levels.

This was a solid card by HBO, I give credit to Marriaga for giving it his all, he fell short I would like to see him fight the other guys in the 126 weight division not named Loma or Walters. I think he will give the other guys problems, now to Walters kinda disappointed that he didn't make weight, but I still think he beats Marriaga anyways, Walters looked great bring on Loma vs Walters next TR.

I'm surprised Marriaga was able to last 12 taking those body shots. He definitely has good conditioning. Can't wait to see him in action again.

Powers past is the best description, Marriaga was able to box w/Walters but was cautious due to the strength/size of Walters.

The fight was good but wasn't the brawl it looked like it had the chance to become given both KO ratio,, they were weary of the power coming back.
