Good win by Walters against a game kid like Marriaga, but my concern is that Walters rehydrated all the way up to 145 pounds in fight night, which is ridiculous and absurd. Marriaga came at a fairly normal 135. It was like watching a welterweight fight a lightweight in there. It is clear Walters is too big for this weight class and he kills himself to make weight. These sanctioning bodies are a joke for allowing things like this to happen and not doing anything about it. They should make a rule where a fighter can only rehydrate 10 pounds or less on fight night, a rule that would be fair to both fighters. Walters needs to move up in weight and fight guys his own size.

Walters is the Crawford/Rios of his division he isn't even closeish to being a natural featherweight he is too big, and it's a testament to his dedication that he has been able to make weight thus far. Can't be too surprised that after he tasted his first big success he let his guard down a bit and wasn't able to make the weight.

My assessment of last night
Walters always has a huge weight advantage in his fights..I've said this in other posts...thought it was smart for him to put the extra weight or else he would have been floored...
I think Walters is getting better with body-punching and he's exciting to watch..but I think he gets hit way too often and doesn't punch as hard as people think: remember he's punching guys he outweights by at least 10 pounds...
Walters will give Loma a tough fight but Walters moving up in weight will be his down fall... he should not rush to move up..right now he should stay at 130 as long as he can..it's obvious he can't make 126 anymore...
As for Marriaga:
I was very impressed...I think he needs Freddie Roach or Robert Garcia or a top notch trainer...
he has power and a great chin..and he can hurt fighters to the body..he has good size to move up in weight also...but he's lacking foot-work and needs to polish up on his defense and stamina...seemed to get tired as the fight went on (I'm sure the body shots didn't help)...
I actually think Marriaga has the bigger upside of the two fighters but Walters' body work showed me he has potential to be something special...
Oh and the HBO needs to get rid of Max Kellerman and Roy Jones, but especially Kellerman...I mean the over-complimenting certain fighters and his assessment of the fights are just amateur night...Roy Jones isn't as bad but he clearly calls fights with an agenda....

Kind of funny to see a lot posters telling people "stop crying about the weight" but these were the same posters who used to kill Pacquiao for "draining" his opponents lol...
If you ever complained about Pacquiao or anyone else using a catchweight for an advantage etc...then you're a hypocrite and pretty much should reevaluate every post you have ever posted concerning the subject because it's obvious you aren't consistent js...
Weight matters..especially outweighing an opponent, it is even more of an advantage in a lot of cases...hence why we have weight classes...
Coming in overweight by one pound..means Walters didn't have to burn himself out..I'll give Walters a pass for this fight, but if he tries to make 126 again..I'm going to lose respect for him...just fight at 130 if you have to kill yourself at 126..simple as that...
I still want to see Walters fight someone without a huge weight advantage who is a legit threat...until then the jury is still out on him...but that body work thoughhhhhh

Good fight i thought. Walters body work straight from the start was very impressive.
I was impressed by Marriaga. It's the first time i have seen him fight, and i'd like to see him face some of the other 'names' at 126. He looks a good fighter..the size difference was a telling factor though.
