Margs was still getting clocked in the 9th round, though. There were a couple of lefts Cotto delivered with about a minute left where it looked like Margarito's legs were starting to get rubbery. You don't get a good shot of the punches on the HBO feed, but after Cotto delivered them, Margarito really started falling into Cotto. Maybe Margs was coming on, but not enough to even win that round.
Everyone knew the eye was going to be under very close scrutiny throughout the fight. Margarito should have at least attempted to adjust his game plan accordingly, rather than using his face to block every shot Cotto threw throughout the fight...and then whine about the stoppage.
Personally, I would have liked the fight to go another round or so...but the notion that Margs was on course to change the outcome gives him a little too much undeserved credit.
