what about the expenses incurred in promoting the fight? With the math you just provided, seems like RN would be taking a loss on this fight. which is the point...it's not profitable enough for the concerned parties to stage this fight

Generally a fight like this is Vegas fight. MGM pays a site fee to the promoters and they incur the operational expenses, in addition to splitting the ticket sales with the promoters. I'm not saying RN wouldn't lose money, they might if ppv sales tank. But it would be an investment into their fighter if they really believed in him winning this fight.

Furthermore, they're already losing money on Ward. They just did a time buy on BET and ticket sales at Oracle aren't likely going to cover the cost of renting the building and the operational expenses. Paul Smith is just the first tune up for Ward, he wants another 2 fights like this where they're going to continue to lose money.

A win over Golovkin instantly gets Ward back to being hot property again. He doesn't have any real options. I'm cool with it because I believe Golovkin beats him and instantly earns his credit.

For a start you have been saying that GGG is not fighting real threats / ducking good competition, but it is a fact that he called out everyone in his weightclass and would move up / down for a PPV fight. GGG is ducking no one, the MW division is.
