How did Martinez get so popular anyway, the Chavez fight?

Well he won't avoid mandatories, rematches or fight at catchweights above the limit against lightweights so that puts him above his predecessor. Also, it's pretty clear he was stripped.Originally posted by wlliam View PostGarcias career has been about proving doubters wrong, time and time again hes done it...i think he'll be a player at 147 honestly

Originally posted by Nicolino View PostWell, Martinez has a lot of carisma and he is way more outgoing that the average of argentine boxers. He made a few TV apperances (an interview and a a sort of a stand up comedy performance) before the Macklin fight that made him very popular among casual fans. Then he went to the argentine version of "dancing with the stars" before the Chaves fight. By that time he was already super popular here. Martinez was very smart with the media and knew how to get the attention of people who wasn't into boxing.
