That's a misconception a lot of fans have. That beating one fighter makes you a PPV star.
People will say "Look at Floyd and Pac, they beat Oscar and became PPV stars". But that's a short sighted argument. Because in order to get Oscar, Floyd and Pac dominated several divisions and beat fighters like Diego Corrales, Genaro Hernandez, Jose Luis Castillo, Marco Antonio Barrera, Eric Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, etc. When they finally got to Oscar, they had hall of fame worthy resumes already! They were world champions in several weight divisions by the time they got their PPV fight. Once they established themselves, the cash cow said, "OK, let's do this"
GGG is not going to be handed a golden ticket to land Canelo or Cotto. Both of them are like "Triple who? **** that dude, I put in all this work and he thinks he can get a payday and make a name off me for beating up Willie Monroe? His ass can wait 2 years."
So no, Lara will not make him a PPV star. But it will put him one step closer to landing a big fight that will get him in the ring with a PPV star. It will get the fans saying "Canelo won a disputed decision with Lara but GGG put him away in 8 rounds. Canelo is scared."
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHhhhhhhhhhhhh this will be classic :
SHICKEN vs SHICKEN CHASER
We know May Jr won't take risks, it took 5 years to get him in the ring with a one armed man, Jr will be looking for an easy way out, so he won't choose Lara as his lamb.
GGG has been calling out all the big shots, nobody's answering !!
Cotto won't hardly speak of GGG
Canelo wants him in the future
Ward found some nobody and I do understand without criticism that he had problems and don't believe for a second he would duck GGG, but I do believe that fight will happen when it ferments long enough. Ward needs to get back on track and he is trying to get his sea legs under him after this fight he should fight DEGALE. By that time GGG will have erased the winner of Cotto Canelo
Maybe inbetween GGG picks up a fight to stay buzy and chase down, cut off the ring and wilt poor ole Lara.
It was always answered. It was just one of the many excuses for GGG fans to use as to why the fight can't happen.
The same way they're trying to use Ward's catchweight as an indicator that he can't make 168. Even though he weighed 173.4 two and half weeks before the Smith fight
so then was it a Lara impersonator in the video a week or 2 ago saying "im 154, im staying at 154"? That wasnt Lara??
So you're scared that GGG may not look good in that fight. So you would rather him fight bums and look spectacular to keep the hype train rolling. You are exactly what's wrong with boxing.
First I'm not even a fan of GGG. Second my point again has nothing to do with GGG specific it's any big name fighter has no reason to fight Lara right now. He did serious damage to his reputation and image in the Canelo fight. You say the name Lara anywhere around boxing fans and nothing but negative shots at him start spewing out. No boxing fan will lose sleep if GGG does not fight Lara let alone pressure him to fight Lara. GGG is not leaving any money on the table by not fighting Lara. Lara has not moved up to 160 and beaten top fighters to force a mandatory fight with GGG. If he beats him we all know it's very likely to be by a boring decision. Lara because of his running and boring style is very hard to win and look good. So it's not about GGG not thinking he can beat Lara it's that there is little to no upside in doing it. That's what you are not getting.
Fans would much rather see GGG fight someone they may not know but who they think will give a exciting fight. Then see GGG fight someone they do know but it's for all the wrong reasons and who will make a ugly fight
as soon as GGG stops Lara, people will start to say "GGG makes another super welter move up in weight, fight ward, bla bla bla"
That would be exactly what he's doing though and why he should move up. No one beats him or would even be favored against him from 160 and below. So if he fights a JMW it's a garbage fight. Now, that being said Lara wouldn't be his best win, I still think it's Geale because he's won titles but Lara would be 2nd on that list.

GGG is not a big name fighter dude. He's begging the big names to give him a golden ticket for beating up Curtis Stevens, Daniel Geale, Adama and Monroe.
If he was a big name, he would be calling the shots and people would be lining up trying to fight him for a chance at not only glory, but securing their financial future. He's just another guy in line right now along with Erislandy Lara, Keith Thurman, Demetrius Andrade, and whoever else HOPING to land a fight with Mayweather, Pacquiao, Cotto or Canelo.
If HBO offers no money for a Lara fight, what do you expect GGG to do? Pay the purse out of his own pocket? Do you even know where the money to pay the fighters' purses comes from? The fight fairy?
Okay, i like GGG and hate Lara's fake Cuban School of Boxing
But, what's the reason for this fight getting no noise from the GGG camp?
I get it, Haymon may not want it, though I sincerely doubt that he has much investment in Lara to care if he losses; this is a win win scenario for him.
Is it HBO? They're putting GGG with anyone, I don't see why HBO would be oppose to adding a good name to GGG's resume.
So, what's the reason again? I've come around. GGG has no decent options, this is as good as it gets to start building something. Lara fought Canelo, that gave him a solid name
Let's see what kind of ratings Lara's upcoming fight pulls in. From there, it should be easy enough to figure out if HBO would approve him as an opponent. People seem to think that all a fighter has to do is throw out another fighter's name and the fight will magically get made. It doesn't work like that in the real world. Look what happened with Cotto and Canelo in May and what is happening with GGG - Froch right now. Setting up a fight takes time and work.

He is not a PPV star but he is a big name fighter his TV ratings on HBO prove this. Lara could NEVER headline or pull TV ratings like GGG. So compared to Lara and every fighter out there besides the top 3-5 Star fighters in boxing GGG is a big name. He's not Cotto or Canelo or Mayweather but he is next tier from there.
