Although, I don't know why Beterbiev doesn't aim to be the #1 WBC contender. Sounds like GYM is protecting Adonis haha

This is called being loyal to who is helping your career, "don't bite that hand that feeds you." The only boxer who straight up and clearly ducked in the LH is Stevenson when he ducked Kovalev and ran to Haymon and Showtime.HBO made Stevenson and since leaving, Stevenson has fought D and C lvl fighters.
A concise and accurate analysis of the light heavyweight division; well put.

And there goes Kovalev's IBF title too (Beterbiev wins this fight, wins in October, the IBF forces the title defense, and Kovalev is left with the seemingly only option of turning down a bigger purse for a PBC broadcast to stay on HBO, vacating the belt).

Stevenson has the WBC, Beterbiev is two fights away from likely getting the IBF, and all that leaves in getting Alvarez positioned for a shot at that WBA belt (WBO being in on that Golden Boy lawsuit, acknowledging politics, likely cuts down that route); having that Montreal money in hand, with Showtime/PBC as US TV partners willing to invest in rights fees, is damn near checkmate.

Kovalev, likely as early as Spring 2016, could be down to only the WBO belt, with no fights that anyone could honestly get excited about looking towards, lol. Have fun with that.

Kovalev is the one who walked away this time. Not Stevenson. You all don't get to just pretend that didn't happen. Kovalev walked away twice.

                War Beterbiev!!
As someone already mentioned Kovalev is the one stuck in a difficult position, unfortunately. Haymon has most of the top Light Heavyweights. Beterbiev will soon be the mandatory for the IBF and thus forcing Kovalev to vacate since he won't fight outside of HBO. Who knows maybe they'll allow Beterbiev to fight on HBO.
It seems like GYM doesn't want Beterbiev to beat up on Stevenson, idk why it's not like Stevenson has much more to offer. But I'm just making assumptions here, they might build it up a bit.

Hopefully, this means we'll be getting Adonis/Beterbiev in a year or two.

Since Kov's name is coming up in the thread, does anyone know how long his HBO contract lasts?
