I think Puerto Rico would be more welcoming to whoever won that fight than they were to Danny Garcia after the Herrera fight. I'm sure they could learn to speak just as much Spanish, too.

As someone already mentioned Kovalev is the one stuck in a difficult position, unfortunately. Haymon has most of the top Light Heavyweights. Beterbiev will soon be the mandatory for the IBF and thus forcing Kovalev to vacate since he won't fight outside of HBO. Who knows maybe they'll allow Beterbiev to fight on HBO.
It seems like GYM doesn't want Beterbiev to beat up on Stevenson, idk why it's not like Stevenson has much more to offer. But I'm just making assumptions here, they might build it up a bit.

It's not about "allowing Beterbiev to fight on HBO"; speaking strictly in hypotheticals, GYM can secure $2m from PBC/Showtime (plus whatever he can get in Canada) for a Kovalev-Beterbiev fight, while Main Events could get HBO to put up $1.5m (with no real infrastructure to pull in Canadian money). Why would GYM put their fighter in the position to accept significantly less money for the fight?

Even if GYM would have to put up $3m (75/25 split for a mandatory defense would put $2.25m in Kovalev's pocket and $750k in Beterbiev's pocket), the PBC money, plus the Montreal gate money, plus the Canadian PPV money, and whatever other side money would be enough to likely cover everything, while also giving his company the chance at having a 31-year wrecking machine as a future star to build around.

Stevenson will get fed to Beterbiev/Alvarez whenever it looks as if he's on his way out; why run an in-house fight that significant any earlier than that, especially when there are other options available for everyone?

Lol I'm just playing. There is actually people that already hate Beterbiev because he's Chechen ******, which is crazy to me. I don't know why people have to bring race or religion into boxing. But there is racists on both sides, so lets not accuse one side and not the other.

I personally don't care if Beterbiev is with Haymon. At the end of the day, Haymon is giving him TV time and fights (4 fights a year to watch one of my favorites, what more can I ask for). Beterbiev is one of Haymon's best up and comers imo, I think he'll be treated fairly.
Even if Haymon wasn't Beterbiev's manager, I still don't hate him. He's giving us more fight dates and TV coverage. I might not agree with everything he's doing, but the other side is also doing some crap things.

So I'm not complaining.

If HBO wants the fight then they should put up the money. You can't talk all that ***** and not show up to a purse bid. Stevenson has the lineal title, and Beterbiev already beat him in the past. Why does he keep getting a pass? They are talking about facing Pascal again WTF?

That is where it'll get ugly. Can you imagine him having to drop his belts one by one when a Haymon-affiliated fighter becomes mandatory? That **** looks SO bad on Kovalev. Haymon doesn't seem to care about the belts, but soon he'll have all of them at LHW if things plays out like we think it will.

pbc has made some interesting moves such as having the battle of ohio in vegas, having lara fight in chicago, having carl frampton fight in el paso, barthelemy vs demarco in vegas, but what they do have is a lot of fighters who are willing to go fight in strange places in front of no crowd.

I'd assume they make Beterbiev vs Stevenson, but not til Beterbiev has gotten a title (assuming the one Kovalev will vacate to avoid fighting off of HBO after Duva loses a purse bid or refuses to participate in one). Nowadays when you got two high level guys, which I believe both Beterbiev & Stevenson to be, but not quite superstars, you almost can't make that fight for its maximum impact without both being title holders since the thinking seems to be if you don't have one of the numerous titles you obviously aren't as important in your division.

I agree. Beterbiev will be a big draw, at least in Canada, dude can punch. He is basically considered the hardest punching amateur (at least in the head-gear era) of all time. As long as he learns french, I think he'll be a huge attraction there.
