GGG should fight Ndam-Lemeaux winner but if Lemeaux wins i can't see Oscar allowing the fight to happen yet.

Yeah but life would be different if there were mandatory nagging chicks - quite interesting in fact.Comment

And if he signs it, fights Canelo, wins, and then refuses to fight Golovkin, what happens then? He gets stripped? Big deal - another 18 months will have flown by. The situation is a farce. 20% sport and 80% business.
Why is Cotto so against giving that guarantee? He claims in interviews that he would 'possibly' fight GGG after Canelo, so why not make it official? What is stopping him? Why do his fans try to invent excuses for him not to give that guarantee? Cotto is not Floyd. He knows how to read and how to sign his name. There is nothing preventing him from signing an agreement that obligates him to actually live up to the obligation he is avoiding by fighting Canelo in the first place.Comment

GGG will continue to cut through the likes of Heiland and Johnson like a hot knife through butter, while Cotto continues to masquerade as the MW champion. Back to regularly scheduled programming. I wouldn't be so annoyed if Lee/Lemieux/N'Dam/Quillin/Jacobs were on the horizon, but they aren't.Last edited by kiaba360; 06-07-2015, 05:05 PM.Comment

Blah blah blah, I've probably been a boxing fan longer than you have been alive. At this point all that is conventional in boxing has gone out the window so don't try to lecture me on how sanctioning body rules work, money makes the ****ing world go round and your GGG god lives in it. So go ffing hell along with all the other little dweebs in here who live in a bubble. GGG wants to fight Cotto on PPV so that he can become a star and no ther reason.Did you just stumble onto this site, because it doesn't seem like you know verry much about how this sport works. The title that is vacant right now is being fought for between lemieux and some other fighter, and the wbo strap belongs to Andy Lee,who wants no part of GGG. That leaves the lineal belt, which belongs to cotto, and who s mandatory just happens to be golovkin. See the way that mandatories work is that the champion can get a voluntary defence, but afterwards he has to take care of his mandatory. Geale was cottos voluntary, so if canelo-cotto where to happen,GGG would have to take a step aside fee. If GGG wanted,he could ask for something ridiculous like 10 million to step aside, and if cottos team declined that amount,GGG would just impose his mandatory status, cotto would get stripped, and ggg would fight someone else for the vacant belt. So if cotto wants to keep the belt, and fight canelo in the fall,he'd better offer GGG a nice check with 7 digits on it.Comment

He has plenty of leverage. He can force WBC to strip Cotto of his title. What would Cotto do then? He would return to 154 where he belongs or fight in Canelo's fantasy 155 division. He would loose credibility for refusing to fight his mandatory and look like a coward in the eyes of the boxing community and boxing fans. All of which could be avoided by simply signing a guarantee that the winner fights GGG next.
But for some reason, that is too much to ask. Go figure.Comment

the sanctioning fees between GGG and Cotto arent that different. 3% of total earnings
Boxers’ Bout Fees. For each WBC championship and elimination contest, each
participating boxer must pay three percent (3.0%) of all gross funds or any other form
of consideration received by the boxer relating to the bout, including but not limited
to the gross purse, compensation derived from pay-per-view, cable or satellite
transmission, television broadcast, or internet distribution, merchandising,
concessions, sponsorships, shared promotional fees (in cases in which the boxer is
promoter or co-promoter), or otherwise, including amounts calculated and paid
following the contest.Comment
