Roach has made Cotto a whole new fighter!

I think cotto has found his confidence again, nothing much really changed just hes more attacking now (due to his confidence). Cottos always been a great boxer puncher, he seems rejuvenated which is always good to see in an aging fighter.Comment

I think the combination of catch weights and opponent selection is the root cause of the transformation, NOT a rejuvenated Cotto or Roach's training. This whole thing reminds me of when Chavez Jr first went with Roach and HBO was slobbering all over him telling us about how good Chavez Jr looks under Roach. Then we found out he was still a bum.
Not saying Cotto is a bum but let's face it, Cotto looking good lately has been a result of handpicking and handicapping.
Anybody who says otherwise is in denial or blind.

The difference between GGG and most other world level fighters is that he's fighting 4 times a year, which hasn't been done to build up a fighter in a long while. When you get quick KOs like he does, it's easy to have quick turn-arounds. That says something about the current quality of his division, and why many are jumping on the "GGG vs. Ward/Lara" bandwagon. However, they aren't in his weight class and therefore he can't be forced or expected to fight them. That's the way boxing promoters and networks operate these days, by carefully choosing a guy's opponents he can be built up to look like a beast.
I call it the Golovkin strategy. Had Cotto been put in there against Lara or Andrade he wouldn't look anywhere near as dominant and might even take a loss....but put him in there against Delvin Rodriguez, damaged goods Sergio Martinez, and Daniel Geale? Suddenly he's a monster again.
That's why I respect Canelo Alvarez. He hasn't been afraid to get in there with anybody even if their style might make for ugly fights. If they are supposed to be the best he wants to face them regardless.
Canelo was expected to face Trout/Lara because they were top relevant LMWs. Of course, it's possible that he could've avoided them, but LMW doesn't have enough depth to where he could've done that for a long time. Canelo fought the relevant guys in his division because everyone was interested in facing him and there were no obstacles that were stopping those match-ups from happening. GGG's resume has been suffering: he wasn't able to face Sturm/Martinez when they were relevant, and now it seems like he won't be able to face Quillin. The best GGG can do at MW right now is face N'Dam/Lemieux/Lee/Saunders and hope that Cotto/Canelo step up to the plate sooner rather than later. HBO/K2 have decided that since he can't fight all of the relevant MWs, they're going to make him a fixture of their network and have him fight so often that everyone will be forced to pay attention. I think Haymon would be wise to do the same with Quillin and Jacobs.Last edited by kiaba360; 06-07-2015, 05:06 PM.Comment

I was amazed at how great he looked. I expected him to look pretty good but he did look great and like a different and much better fighter. He looked much better than he did in his last two fights. His foot work was very fast and graceful. His punching speed, power, timing and accuracy was all there in spades. I thought Canelo was going to easily beat him but this Cotto is a hard fight for any 154-160 pounder. He looked so much better than he did in his Mayweather fight that I think he would beat Mayweather in a rematch. I still think GGG would KO him but this Cotto is a dangerous fight even for the GGG monster.Comment

I am strongly against catchweight title fights and angry with Cotto for making Geale fight him at a weight limit of 157 instead of the proper 160. That doesn't change the excellence of Cotto's performance. No doubt Geale would have been better if allowed to weigh in at 160 pounds. He still would have been crushed. He is not in Cotto's class.Comment

Why even make this pointless thread? You could have made this comment in another thread. I still remember when you preached day in and day out about how bad Lucas was going to annihilate Danny in 3 rounds. Ever since then I can't take your posts seriously.Comment

Not in my opinion. I'm sure that's what Roach wants everybody to think but the truth is that Cotto's opposition has been very limited with Roach. Geale is a limited fighter as was Delvin Rodriguez and the version of Martinez that Cotto faced.
He is the same Cotto and it will show when he finally steps up to face the truly elite fighters.
With that said, this also shows how truly weak Golovkin's resume is considering the accolades he gets.Last edited by joseph5620; 06-07-2015, 05:01 PM.Comment

for real the catchw weight king is onlylooking like this because he is fighting drained fighters or handicapped fighters. Still think he is good though and would love for him to fight Canelo and GGGThis whole thing reminds me of when Chavez Jr first went with Roach and HBO was slobbering all over him telling us about how good Chavez Jr looks under Roach. Then we found out he was still a bum.
