Was Paul Williams the closest we've had to Thomas Hearns since the 80's?

He had the rare size and reach for a WW like Hearns but he gave up all of those advantages in the ring. They had very different styles. Hearns used his length to his advantage.

Williams was past his best when he got injured but he was still game.

      Hell no.

Hell No! Just no. How long have you been watching boxing? And how come we as fans have to compare fighters? There will never be another Hearns, man. They fight nothing alike. I don't care how tall Williams is or how long his reach is.

No way. Williams was tall but he didn't fight tall. He had no jab and put himself in range to be hit.

He had no sense of distance whatsoever.

          Hearns was basically
          Vernon Forrest jab and skills
          Paul Williams size
          Tito Trinidad power
          Amir Khan chin

          All wrapped in one fighter

            They're literally nothing alike.

Pau Williams was a guy who out worked you, didn't have much of a jab, didn't use his height, iron chin, big Gass tank, overwhelmed guys with output, no one punch power.

Hearns was a guy who boxed and countered, hard sharp jab, picked accurate shots, extreme one punch power, perceived to have a weak chin, didn't have great stamina.

            Seriously couldn't be less alike
Ya, that's how I viewed him as well. He loved brawling and didn't take advantage of his strengths.

Yeah, if williams was like anyone from 80s, Aaron pryor's overwhelming style reminds me of williams style... Though obviously they were different shapes

I wish he trained with Emmanuel Steward. That would have been a perfect duo.

He did not have anything close to an Amir Khan chin. He was stopped in a grueling fight by maybe the greatest welter ever, one of the best middles ever and a guy who knocked out almost everyone he defended his middleweight title against, and another middleweight. He won fights as high as cruiserweight.

Hearns's chin is very underrated. It wasn't close to glass.
