We're talking about two big punchers, not defensive counter punchers. They don't have to be the next Floyd Mayweather for ****s sake. Why even bring him up? No one is even saying they have great/good defense, but who has the better defense? That's the question. Don't get smarmy and bring up dumbass **** that makes no sense.

Anyway, on to other stuff, from what I've seen of them in the last few years Maiden has become a better fighter defensively and for such a come forward, aggressive fighter has actually become good defensively, particularly when he's focusing on it. I think he's showing that he's becoming better transitioning between offence and defense now too.

Matthyse in my opinion has regressed in the last few years and is getting hit cleaner and more now than ever, so Maidana I think has the better defense quite clearly now.

Nonetheless, they are both aggressive punchers so it goes without saying that both are still going to get hit cleanly and reasonably often, but Maiden is making great ground at diminishing that significantly...against better opposition too.

It's not even debatable, right ...

So let's look at a fight Maidana clearly won.

Broner landed at 37% of his punches against Maidana,42% of Broner's power punches landed.

Now let's take a look at a fight in which Matthysse got floored twice.

Molina landed at a 27% ratio, 33% power punches.

Even in the Garcia fight Matthysse got hit less than Maidana vs Broner.
36% of Garcia's shots landed, and Lucas had one eye completely shut. (in the last three rounds garcia was landing at 62% , 46% and 58% respectively).

And if you don't trust numbers, just watch them fight. Maidana is a big punch and a big heart.
Matthysse likes to brawl it out , but -can- box and be reasonably responsible with defense.

When Maidana has to box you have fights like Alexander or Floyd II in which he stops throwing and gets outlanded. (Alexander nearly doubled Maidana in total punches landed, while he probably deserved the L against Matthysse).

Worthless stats? And what is an eye injury indicative of? By your reasoning, Erislanddy Lara is a worse defender than both.

              LOL

What is it supposed to mean?.

You can get cut or bruised by -one- punch .
Besides different fighters swell and cut more or less easily.

There is a difference between "is not even debatable " and " i refuse to debate because I'll stick to my ignorant opinion, no matter what"

You can voice your argument that Maidana is better defensively but showing that one punch and basically using that as your whole argument is awful. Look at Mayweather getting rocked in your sig, when is the last time you saw Maidana getting hit with bugalows like that? Does that mean he's better defensively than Mayweather too?
Two reasons why Ortiz was landing on Maidana: (1) Ortiz was in his physical prime and being 100% aggressive so of course he's going to land some bombs. It's boxing. Shit happens. Just because Maidana isn't Mayweather doesn't mean he doesn't have a good defense. (2) Maidana wasn't with Robert Garcia at the time.

where's that clip of maidana pimp smacking floyd and then rolling the counter while his back was on the ropes? it's from the rematch, in like round 10 or 11. people still think this is the same guy who fought ortiz lol.

My post accounted for the stoppage round. I think it would have been more like the first five, and less like round 6.

If you still don't understand my point, I don't know what to say. I don't know how else to explain it.

                    Nice chatting with you.
How is that likely when his offence was completely non existence by that point?

Just explain to me in layman's terms for a layman like myself how Maidana was fortunate in that fight.

i think both have equally good defenses just two different approaches. matthysse tends to hunker down and parry/block punches while chino uses head and upper body movement to slip punches. what's spectac-ssspectacticle-spectacticle about chino is that he is rarely marked up in fights despite the punch stats.
