Why is HW boxing only relevant when an U.S. American is Champion?

Personally Ive always preferred 160 & below (135-154 being my favorites) I think because its sort of a melting pot of nationalities in those divisions. But the Heavyweights only seem to be relevent when an American is champ, you would think Americans & other countries that highly promote boxing would be trying to establish the next HW contender but seems like everyone is cruising in neutral either waiting for the Klitchkos to fade or retire. Anyways like I said Ive never been a fan of the heavies but theyre great for boxing & I hope to see Wilder take a risk sooner than later, your thoughts?

american HW have been a hell of a lot better, historically.

    you guys had wladimir
    we had muhammad freaking ali.

i understand that this reality rubs some people the wrong way. i don't really give a f#ck, but i understand that the reality of the division's history is offensive to some.

The division remains relevant outside the US. I'd be interested in knowing where Wlad stacks up financially against other boxers. Is anyone aside from Floyd and Manny making that kind of money?

The Heavyweight division doesn't need an American Heavyweight champion to be relevant. It's just that the Klitschko brothers are safety first, jab-friendly fighters. They held the title, so interest in the Heavyweight division dwindled.

If Gennady Golovkin was a Heavyweight, somebody who is exciting and takes risks plus goes for the kill at all times, the Heavyweight division would be more popular. Matter of fact, a Heavyweight version of Gennady Golovkin would be a superstar on US TV. Doesn't matter what nationality. (In this specific instance, Kazakh.)

Schleming, Johannson, and the Klitchkos are the only non american HW's that were worth a damn and even they aren't even that good p4p historically

klitschko and haye split a 30 million pound purse in '11.

                  that's upwards of 40 million.

Lennox Lewis had plenty of his fights in the U.S., probably more than he did in his own country.
