Thurman is fighting in an arena in his hometown against Luis Collazo's corpse on free TV

They're trying to build a name and a fanbase for Thurman. That's how it benefits them.

Wow you really are a complete sucker for the hype.

No, I dont expect the event to draw much or help Thurman build himself among casual fans. Tampa isnt a very good sports market and I dont expect him back there after this fight. Hopefully Im wrong though and they do come out because the constant Vegas fights are bland. Its a lousy bout but he doesnt have any other fights out there at the moment and he should be able to make quick enough work to get back by year's end.

Dont compare that to what Brook is doing. You said they could get 30-40k vs Rios in Sheffield and again put it on PPV, which will make Hearn very happy. haymon's paying for his time on ESPN and will take a loss

It's literally the same as what Brook's doing except Brook is fighting a much better opponent

I think a stoppage win would be a huge statement, especially an early one.

At no point am I saying this is a great fight, but this is Al Haymon subjects we are dealing with here and these fights we have been regularly treated to have almost become the norm, like Wilder vs Molina, Garcia vs Peterson etc etc .....

If only. Those would be awesome fighs but when was the last time Khan fought an opponent we knew would be competitive. Thurman to me fighting in July is pretty much all but ruled out of facing Mayweather, I'd have liked to have seen Khan v Thurman last weekend and then Thurman vs Mayweather.

Any match between Broner, Thurman, Khan, Maidana Brook snd Bradley I find acceptable, Khan and Thurman if wont fight each other should be picking from those other guys for a fight, with maybe the fringe guys Vargas, Rios, Marquez and Porter being the very least of acceptable opposition.

Trolling aside, obviously this is a showcase fight for Thurman in his hometown - a win over Collazo's corpse doesn't prove anything but it gives him a chance to put on an impressive performance and grow his name further.

Only Americans are allowed to do this though. Hanz taught me that.
Not excited about this matchup, but excited about Thurman fighting in Florida again (and relatively close to me). Never seen him live, I might make that drive.

Alexander would probably be too difficult to work with.

I don't think Thurman and Berto would ever fight each other.

And yeah Robert Garcia just was quoted as saying how long it will take Maidana to get back to proper weight

Wilder's fight in his hometown is nearly sold out with a touch more than a week to go.

Thurman's fight is in his hometown, will be televised in primetime on ESPN (with ESPN likely putting some effort into talking about the fight card), and the actual fight is about 6 weeks away.

Head to Ticketmaster, wait till that post the tickets, and buy a couple; why would they be giving away tickets, especially this far from the actual fight being put on?

Collazo is still a decent fighter but Thurman shuttle be beyond this fight at this point. He's already lost to Berto and Khan.
