  • Comments Thread For: Shaw: Cotto Beat 'Shot, One-Legged Fighter' in Martinez

NEW YORK – Gary Shaw wasn’t overly impressed by Miguel Cotto’s destruction of Sergio Martinez.

More than anything, Shaw, whose New Jersey-based company promotes Daniel Geale, considers Cotto’s technical knockout of Martinez an indictment of the Argentine southpaw’s physical condition entering their WBC middleweight title fight last June 7 at Madison Square Garden. Though Martinez honorably refused to use it as an excuse, his surgically repaired right knee clearly hindered him during his loss to Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs).

He's right. The only relevant thing Cotto has done the last 5yr+ is manage to win 3rds against Floyd, but so was Marcos Maidana. Cotto gets handled quite easily by several top middleweights. Probably happens Sat if Geale isn't too affected by the catchweight.

"I don't take anything away from Cotto...but he beat a shot, one-legged fighter..." Nope. No contradiction there.

I don't think it's a contradiction. He knows cotto is a very good fighter, but he feels that win isn't impressive.

I hate when promoters talk **** about fighters. Promoters today suck so bad at hyping fights. Shaw should be forced to spar with Cotto for 5 rounds & then maybe he'll stfu in the future & just hype a mfing fight.

So then you're complaining about CW that's hard to make because you're facing a guy only capable of beating damaged goods? Why you scared Shaw?

Many people crap on Cotto for beating Sergio but I don't.
It isn't Cotto's fault Martinez was in no condition.
Cotto went out and took care of business which is all you can ask a fighter.

I'm more disappointed with his recent acts. Saying Canelo hasn't shined when his resume and numbers speak for themselves. As well as saying ggg has a weak resume all the while having a voluntary against someone on ggg's resume.

              Weak sauce from Cotto.

Everyone knows that, even Cotto fans - getting them to admit it is a different story.

Discrediting or diminishing the significance of a fighter's victory (especially one for a title) is taking something away from that fighter.

I don't think he's scared -- he just gets extra-hungry on fight week. And when he's hungry, he's cranky.
