I hate catchweights, especially for the world title. It just goes to show Cotto is afraid to fight this guy without draining him. I know Roach has a lot to do with this though.

I am so glad when Diva Cotto retires. He just ****s on his fans and on boxing in general. Daniel Geale didnt fight below 160 in over 8 years and this guy already got knocked out at 160 in his last fight. What a disgrace for the sport Cotto is.

So hypothetically, what do you think will happen if Geale misses weight? Is Cotto just blowing hot air when he says he'll cancel the fight?

WBO have posted a statement on their web site regarding catchweights...

The WBC has seen many comments made regarding the “catch weight” topic in recent days. We would like to provide some information which could serve as clarification with this regard.

There are 17 weight categories universally recognized. There is a proposal to unify all names as some divisions are called differently by some groups and this by itself creates confusion. The 17 categories are:

          Weight limit
          (lb / kg)

Every fight is scheduled to a certain weight category . For a fight to be recognized under such weigh category both boxers must make the weight within the limit of the division in the official weigh in ceremony.

Catch weight – This term is used for specific agreements reached by the 2 fighters and is an exclusive commercial contract which has nothing to do with the regulations of boxing.

There are 2 scenarios in which catch weight fights have been scheduled

A-. World title fight scheduled to x division in which the fighters agree to have a limit of how much they can weight . For example a fight scheduled at welterweight which the limit is 147 lbs. and the fighters agree on weighing 144 maximum. For boxing regulation the fight is within the 147 category, so it is an official welterweight fight.

B-. Over or Under the weight non-title fight. There have been numerous cases where a world champion participates in a fight outside of his / her weight category. Most of the times it is an over the weight fight in which fighters agree on a specific weigh limit.

For any specific comment, concern or recommendation we invite you to let us know and we will be happy to address the matter. Please email to contact@wbcboxing.com

And Geale goes home with no check. That makes sense.

Jay-Z wouldn't let Cotto walk out of his boxing fight/concert event.
