Comments Thread For: DeGale on Facing Kessler Next: That's a Hell of a Fight!

IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (21-1, 14KOs) is hungry to get a big name in his first defense of title he captured last month with a twelve round decision victory over Andre Dirrell in Boston.

DeGale says an all-British showdown is possible with countryman Rocky Fielding, who returns in July and holds a high ranking in the IBF's top ten.

The fight he would really like is a collision with the "Viking Warrior" Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35KOs). Kessler has been inactive for over two years, since losing a twelve round decision to Carl Froch in their rematch.

    Really?

    Wow. Thought Mikkel had retired.

I'd rather watch that than DeGale-Hopkins.

This isn't that good a fight. Kessler is a fast fading fighter, probably shot now that he's been away for so long. I guess it's a good money grab though.

Yes, as a Kessler fan, i'd rather he stay 'retired'. I don't want to see him losing fight after fight, past his peak.

It's a good fight from a standpoint of having a name on your resume and Kessler didn't look washed up against Froch although he did look slightly faded but that might have been Froch's doing. And Kessler has only ever lost to Froch, Ward and Calzaghe who are 3 of the best super middleweights possibly in history (Super Middleweight Division only officially began around 1984).

I always wanted to see this fight but Kessler didn't want it. DeGale beats any version of Kessler.

This ticks all the boxes for a homecoming fight seeing as Kessler is well known in the UK and will help build DeGale for bigger fights.

Wouldn't be surprised if Kessler came out and laid degale out. Kessler's been inactive for years now and was inactive before the Froch fight too having only fought a couple of rounds in years before then - so Degale is definitely getting him at the right time.

In his prime Kessler would have laid him out in 5 rounds.

I know he's having a second baby now and always said he wouldn't go into the ring as a father. Let's see.

DeGale is all wrong for Kessler. Kessler never laid out anyone worth a **** in 5 rounds let alone a switch hitting southpaw who throws punches from odd angles.

                    Doubt it happens.

If it does, Degale wins. All wrong for him at this point.
