Dan was the mandatory so in a technical sense, yes he did. He got that spot and Brook had to fight him.

Gavin obviously didn't deserve a shot but it was a short notice fight designed to keep Brook busy after being out of the ring for so long following the stabbing and to boost a PPV card after Amir Khan turned down the fight.

Rios may not deserve a shot either. But he's available, he's a name, the fight will go out live on HBO and it increases Brook's profile in America so it can lead to making the bigger fights - what is your issue with that?

Remember this has all happened in the space between March and August so you're suggesting they've been "milking the title" for a whopping 5 months

RW, what are your thoughts on the current state of the welterweight division ?

I think that it is shameful that not one welter was interested enough to make an effort to land that last remaining Mayweather payday. Not one welter attempted to put together two nice back-to-back wins against top opposition.

e.g.
The Khan/Brook winner would be a shoe-in to land that fight

The winner of Thurman/Brook, Khan/Thurman, or any combination including Brook / Bradley / Thurman / Khan, would be close to stamping their mark on that payday..... but nope, nothing !

There has been complete disinterest from the so-called top welters, not one of them made a effort to distance themselves from the pack, with ALL choosing underwhelming opposition heading toward September 2015.
