And Wilder definitely has a fan friendly style.
i Just wish it was somebody other than Molina since Haymon has access to a lot better heavyweights.

Idk about this. I think Wilder is still green enough where some soft touch title defenses are in his future & for his longevity aren't necessarily a bad thing although they won't be enduring to fans. Plus lets be honest his team has taken the path of least resistance to a title & in his first defense. I have a hard time believing they will suddenly become the Carl Froch of HW's with his opponent selection.

Disappointing defence, of course, but he'll be fighting Povetkin next.

He's fighting Molina because he's old & he's ranked #43 in the division. Oh, and if Arreola can knock Molina out in 1 round, then....

A Leapai who got stopped by Kevin Johnson yeah that was a well deserved Mandatory position for him right?

Yup, because he got that mandatory position right after he got knocked out by Johnson... weird how they work

I hope so. I get that you want Wilder to look "strong" going into that fight. IMO he should have fought someone that could actually prepare him for Povetkin.

I guess I am looking at it from too much of an "old time" point of view. I think he should be fighting like a Pulev or a Cunningham, Aereola at worse.

Why not take some "stay busy" fights until he gets the winner of Wlad/Fury. Get paid, keep the skills sharp, bring the first world title fight to his beloved Alabama. All the contenders do it, they hardly ever fight each other..
I get it, I just think it sends the wrong message. This isn't what I am used to seeing. I grew up on fighters getting progressively better opposition, not jumping from quality to easy KO repeatedly.

Wouldn't it be better if Deontay cleaned out the division by fighting progressively better opponents?

IMO the next 2 fights should be pulev or Fury and then Fury or Povetkin. Then next year fight Wlad.

Fury isn't going within ten miles of Wilder until Fury gets his Vlad shot. Pulev is OK, but he doesn't seem to be super interested in fighting the big dogs ATM. Wins over Stiverne/Povetkin would be the best non-Wlad resume in the division. Pulev/Fury first two defenses he's in a great position..
