Here's the difference between Canelo and Cotto. Canelo after Mayweather stated he didn't want to pretend to be a champion at 154 because he knew Mayweather was the true champion, so he stayed fighting at 155lbs and turned down the offer to fight for the WBC 154lb belt.

Cotto on the other hand wants to hold on to the 160lb belt so that he can project an image of him being a champion over the 160lb division, without ever actually allowing those fighters to face him at 160lbs.

The WBC and other orgs should have a policy that a title belt only be contested under the traditional weight guidelines. You want to have a catch weight fight, that's fine. But don't fight MW's at 157lbs and pretend that makes you champion of 160lbs.

Exactly people trying to compare this to Canelo are fools. The big difference is Canelo is NOT HOLDING A BELT HOSTAGE. I have no problem with a catch weight for a NON title fight. But that's not what Cotto is doing. He won a fraudulent belt against a man he ducked for years. Waited till he was 40 and on one leg before he finally fought him. And now he is disgracing that belt. Won't fight his mandatory and the true best fighter at 160 but will fight his leftovers instead? And this after months of disrespecting GGG by saying he hasn't beaten anybody good and saying he doesn't have to fight him. Seriously you can't make this up. So if GGG ain't beat nobody good why you fighting Geale (who was destroyed by GGG last year) and why should we care if you beat him when you are basically calling him a bum yourself? And you are not beating him at 160 instead imposing a catch weight for the title fight and making threats of more catch weight to come.

Cotto is making himself and his fans who defend him look like clowns. Vacate the belt and nobody keeps asking you questions about GGG or why you having catch weights. Vacate and just fight Canelo or whoever you want and save face.

He was answering a question about the catchweight issue and he stated that there were no complaints on his end when he agreed to a catchweight for the pacquiao fight.

He did NOT say, "anyone who wants to fight me must accept a catch-weight or otherwise there is no fight."

yes he did complain,he complained and said he wanted the fight at the full weight of 147 for the title and if many didn't want it cotto would agree to 145 but not the title on the line,,,i was really hoping cotto would go through with his way of thinking but at the end of everything he took the fight,but he wasn't happy with the fight being at a catchweight with title on the line

He's been a total joke for a while now, he's just finally "come out of the closet" as of late. Time to abandon ship and find a new obsession.

Cotto exemplifies everything bad and wrong about boxing, cherrypicking injured washed up opponents, holding paper belts hostage, forcing your opponent to concede any possible advantage by leveraging your ethnic fanbase, etc.
