a soft touch for the MW championship of the world?
i can see it.
bad fight, but whatever. floyd's good enough that a lot of the fights around his weight class are bad.
boxing is starting to suck. it really is. i hope you guys realize that. just look at the young guys coming up.
Floyd remained unbeaten and only had one fight where most people thought he lost and that was Castillo- a guy who got beat by a few other fighters
So there was never depth in that era
You're wrong
Just because fighters have a lot of power doesn't mean they suck
Kovalev would have given the bhop that fought tarver an absolute handful
Ggg punches like a mule and has an outstanding chin and punch accuracy and variety
Loma, Crawford, are highly skilledLast edited by jas; 06-01-2015, 10:36 AM.Comment

Floyd Cotto 2 at 155lb sounds good on paper...but as a fan of the sport you have to ask yourself: Do I really want possibly Floyd's last fight to be a rematch? Been there done that, I honesty would rather see him beat someone like Garcia or Khan. Add a fresh name to his resume.
Name any one that would give a more entertaining fight that Cotto. Ease spare me gggComment

I think Cotto beats Floyd in the rematch, but I just want to see Floyd in a competitive fight. That's all it comes down to, Cotto is really the only name that Floyd would potentially fight to make an entertaining fight. So that's why I want to see it, competitive and entertaining.Comment

Fight Khan or if Mayweather really wants to fight at mw, how about GGG?Comment

Cotto did an amazing job, one of my favorite fights. I was really surprised with Pacquiao, he was actually an inferior matchup for Floyd when you look at what Cotto, Maidana, Mosley were able to do. Even if he were fighting with one arm he wasn't able to cut the ring off and rough Floyd up one bit. He was never in a position to unleash big combinations.Comment

i'm not sure what you're talking about with this, but i'm open to any input.
networks want high skill and high excitement. they want entertainment. they're really looking for parody. fights between guys with high skill levels are exciting when there is parody. you want to see people hitting eachother. this is boxing. if you want to watch dodgeball, fencing, or chess, you can.
if you'regiven the opportunity to pick ali over wladimir, leonard over mayweather, you take it.
For me, watching guys who lose and guys that have limited skill be rewarded with marquee fights is getting sickening and boring. For example, Rios being discussed as the net opponent for Brook.
What has Rios done to earn a shot at the Brook's belt? He is 2-1 at WW, one of those wins over Alvarado, who never fought at WW prior to that (to my knowledge). But that fight is being sold as being "exciting" because it will produce a KO. Is what it is but IMO it takes away from the sport.
I think the more "excitement" is pushed, the more we will see TV fights that lack any real drama and fighters with any real skill.
When a Gabe Rosado type has a better chance of being seen on a major network card then a Rigo, I think it hurts the sport the sport long term.Comment

pacquiao definitely didn't have power
i don't think you've been watching boxing for very long, to be fair to you.
if you read my other posts, you'll see that i addressed the lomachenko, golovkin, kovalev phenomenon. these guys turn pro as adults. golovkin and kovalev are in their 30's.Last edited by New England; 06-01-2015, 11:43 AM.Comment

Sort of the same thing you are talking about with younger fighters and how they do not move you. They may have some pop or some athleticism, but they are not complete, hence you, a diehard doesn't get too excited about them,

this just sounds like a roundabout way to fellate floyd mayweather, to me.Comment

I will say that there are a few that show promise, longevity and a willingness to fight anyone, so all is not lost.Comment
