a soft touch for the MW championship of the world?
i can see it.
bad fight, but whatever. floyd's good enough that a lot of the fights around his weight class are bad.
boxing is starting to suck. it really is. i hope you guys realize that. just look at the young guys coming up.Comment

It's true what you're saying really. If Floyd could make 140 it's pretty feasible that in 2 more fights he could beat Garcia at 140 and Cotto at 160 and be Lineal Champ in 4 weight classes at the same time at age 38.
Floyd's great but that's more of a sign of the level of boxing as opposed to how good Floyd is.Comment

I can see it but I just find it unlikely. Especially now with the whole Haymon feud.

i'm less wowwed by young, contemporary boxers than i used to be. i used to see guys coming up and say "holy guacamole, that kid can fight!"
i don't see that any more. lomachenko, AJ joshua, golovkin, a young andre ward, i saw it there. it's just a bit more rare than it used to be. also, these guys are grown men by the time they turn pro, which is significant.
people are going gaga over this errol spence kid
people went gaga over keith thurman.
they aren't bad fighter, but they're not on the level in terms of their talent or their skills. they're also in their physical primes already.
the only thing i don't agree with is floyd fighting at 140 lbs. he had to get an exemption from the NSAC to take saline prior to the pacquiao fight. he's got to dry out to make 147. he's almost 40, after all.Last edited by New England; 06-01-2015, 10:14 AM.Comment

How great can boxing, or any sport for that matter, be when the primary network that airs the sport pushes excitement while devaluing skills and penalizes winning but rewards losing with a more lucrative fight against a better opponent that the fighter has no chance to defeat?
i'm not sure what you're talking about with this, but i'm open to any input.
networks want high skill and high excitement. they want entertainment. they're really looking for parody. fights between guys with high skill levels are exciting when there is parody. you want to see people hitting eachother. this is boxing. if you want to watch dodgeball, fencing, or chess, you can.
if you'regiven the opportunity to pick ali over wladimir, leonard over mayweather, you take it.Comment

What I meant was if he could make it, he could feasibly be Lineal Champ at 4 different weights at the same time whilst approaching 40. Which tells you about today's game.Comment

I understand that the rematch would likely go the same way or maybe even more one sided but if it's anything similar to the first, I don't see anything wrong with that. Unlike his most recent opponent, Cotto will give it his all.Comment

If he wants to fight for middleweight championship i rather see him either;
A- Not fight in September and fight winner of Cotto vs Alvarez (this helps promote Mexico vs Puerto Rico for Sept 15') for May 2016 to get to 49-0, which will give him time to rest and train.
B- Have a keep busy fight against a decent welterweight (Winner of Bradley/Vargas or Brook) then fight for the 50-0 in May 16 against the winner of Alvarez and Cotto.Comment
