'Pacquiao was the draw, not Floyd'

Retired boxer Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini believes that people came to see Manny Pacquiao and not Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their much-publicized super fight early this month.

Mancini, who ruled the lightweight division in the early '80s, acknowledged that Mayweather is a special fighter with superb defensive skills. But this is also the reason, why Mayweather isn’t such a big draw in boxing, he said.

“For me, I’m not paying to see him. He’s got special skills and he’s a special fighter but I’m not paying to see him. On free TV, fine. If not, no. Pacquiao was the draw, everyone knows that,” the former WBA lightweight champion said in an interview with On The Ropes Boxing.

But what about Mayweather’s pay-per-view records?

Mancini explained that the undefeated American gets big pay-per-view numbers because he partners himself with the more exciting boxing stars.

“Usually he keeps bragging that he has the top pay-per-view fights, this fight, the [Oscar] De La Hoya fight and the Canelo (Saul Alvarez) fight. But look who were the stars, Pacquiao, De La Hoya and Canelo,” he said.

Mayweather defeated Pacquiao via a unanimous decision during their much promoted “Fight of the Century” earlier this month. It raked in at least 4.4 million pay-per-view buys at $100 each.

But the super bout failed to live up to the hype, especially after the American spent most of the time hitting and running rather than engaging the Filipino superstar.

Mancini accused Mayweather of not caring about the paying public.

“I always said that athletes in general and fighters in particular have an obligation to the paying public to give them the best fight possible. He doesn’t care about that and he hasn’t cared about that,” said Mancini.

“He’s a modern-day Houdini, he doesn’t take a lick of a chance, he takes your money and he gets away with it. He doesn’t take a lick of a chance and he gets away with it.”
    That is dead on

You must Youtube Sugar Ray fighting Camacho when he was 90 years old. Sugar Ray is a far superior fighter to Mayweather, " You can"t argue with ****** " meaning you now go to your High school gym class

Let me see, the sport of boxing is define by styles. Most of these has beens like to brawl & at the end of their career they are so punch drunk they have to help from someone to put on the draws. They normally are broke from being robbed by promoters and make a living doing commentating. Now they see Floyd with all the skills they never had because they would go out & do drugs/get drunk & abuse their bodies until they have to fight. Hench the hatred they have for him at every turn. Boom Boom or any other fighter at 147lbs would have their hands full fighting Floyd because the risk they take to knock him out will get used against them. If not for Floyd's business sense todays fighters would end up just like all the so called great fom back in the day(BROKE AS HELL)
These guys who keep bringing up who would beat Floyd IMO are just jealous because the guy has made more money in one fight then 20 so called ATG combine over their entire career. Boom Boom should pretty much enjoy what Floyd is doing for the sport or just STFU....

You know you're the best when people have to bring up guys from 40 years ago to beat you.. ever notice nobody ever mentions Pacquiao with the names of ali, Leonard or Robinson. .and if pacquiao was the draw then explain his PPV numbers vs Algieri compared to floyd vs Guerrero

            "THIS GUY",,,hahahahaha

Mancini nailed it as other great fighters have.

When I saw the title my first thought was , I saw Leonard destroy his daddy and the shoulder roll, easy work.

The way Mancini broke down the two, Leonard mean and wanted to close the show, mayweather running and just getting by, made me laugh.

            Mancini got it perfect.

Pac was the DRAW !!!!! Its JUST to dang bad he was one armed.

People came to see PAC destroy JR,,,

People didn't come to see JR like People came to see LEONARD !!!!!!!!!

I am with Mancini, PPV, never again with May JR, common tv, yep,,,Maybe

            Pac ? PPV anytime !!!!!!!!!

Thats because of the CONTEXT of the CONVERSATION dumberd.

Use yer head to think with instead of a hat rack.

Pac NEVER claims he is the Greatest of ALL TIME,,,never.

Jr on the other hand is so full of himself that he makes that claim and in the face of millions he becomes laughable.

              Reread Mancini's comments slowly.

Think CHINA for your Pac answer.

These old dinosaurs are salty because they know floyd is going to retire with a healthy brain and fat pockets. .all of these old farts ended up broke and half ******ed. .floyd has no obligation to risk his health for some drunk ass fans, you want action, tell his opponent to figure out his defense ..just look at iran barkley, warrior from the 80s, won multiple belts..but now sleeps in subways and motels ..floyd is looking out for himself ,none of these fans will be there to help if he ends up ******ed or broke

How about we YouTube Sugar vs. Terry Norris, when Sugar was 35. Would that show us the skill level that Mayweather has at age 38 vs. Pacquiao? It's really hard to compare fighters of different eras, but let's ask ourselves...What was Sugar doing at age 38? What was his record at age 38?

He never claims this because he cant !.. hes been knocked out by Rustico Torrecampo, Medgoen Singsurat , Marquez. .knocked down by Nedal Hussein (which was a ten count) . .is arguably 0-4 vs Marquez..and in the biggest fight of his life only managed to win two rounds

Manny doesn't claim to be the greatest because he can't! !.. Floyd has been dominating the sport for 19 years..he's the only boxer ever to be years past his prime and still crowned P4P king.. go find out what Leonard was doing by age 38..Ali at 38 was finished. .no other boxer has remained this dominant so many years past their prime

Floyd claims TBE because he has a strong case for it..
