Trainer Alexander Zimin, who worked with Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21 KOs), is very confident that of the Russian fighter's ability to unseat WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs).

Povetkin is the mandatory challenger to Wilder after last Friday's 91-second destruction of top Cuban contender Mike Perez (21-2-1, 13 KOs).

Wilder defends his title next month against challenger Eric Molina in Alabama. After that voluntary defense, the WBC will likely order the mandatory fight with Povetkin.

This entire fight depends if Povetkin can get past Wilders long reach to the inside of Wilder without taking one of Wilders big right hands to chin, Povetkin can take Wilder out.

Wlad didn't really go for the kill in that fight and didn't commit to finish him off when he had him going. I think Wilder is a much more aggressive puncher than Klitschko - it's not just about the power.

Yeah it's pretty easy to fight tall against a guy like Stiverne. Arreola was fighting like he was 2 ft taller than Stiverne. Stiverne just waits for 1 big shot and lets you tee off on him in the meantime.

But there is the potential that Wilder uses Wlad's strategy to beat Povetkin. It definitely wouldn't be pretty but life isn't fair and Povetkin is quite short for a modern HW.

If Wilder can use the same gameplan he did against Stiverne he should beat Povetkin but Povetkin is a different animal compared to Stiverne.

The best style to beat Wilder is probably counterpunching. I saw points in the Stiverne fight where he charged at Wilder, and the more aggressive he got, the more Wilder seemed to anticipate him. He's a lot more slippery than people think. Povetkin can't just come straight at him, he's got to setup traps and use the element of surprise. Obviously Povetkin is experienced enough to do that, but Wilder is capable of outboxing him too. In short, it's a must-see fight.

Povetkin will not beat Wilder cause as we saw against Stevern Wilder uses his height and reach to his advantage just like both Klitschkos and Fury does. It's smart fighting.

povetkin is much quicker of hand and foot than stiverne and hes busier. cant see wilder being able to keep povetkin on the outside for 12 rounds. of course there's always the chance he lands something huge early but povetkin is a clear favorite imo

I like the work in progress that is Wilder, he is clearly elite Afrikan talent but I'm worried about his skills and defense, not sure about the russian as these russians dont put emphasis on defense in their amateur system like the americans or cubans, most of them have limited defense.
