Comments Thread For: Trainer: Povetkin Will Beat Deontay Wilder in Style

Trainer Alexander Zimin, who worked with Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21 KOs), is very confident that of the Russian fighter's ability to unseat WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs).

Povetkin is the mandatory challenger to Wilder after last Friday's 91-second destruction of top Cuban contender Mike Perez (21-2-1, 13 KOs).

Wilder defends his title next month against challenger Eric Molina in Alabama. After that voluntary defense, the WBC will likely order the mandatory fight with Povetkin.

Povetkin will not beat Wilder cause as we saw against Stevern Wilder uses his height and reach to his advantage just like both Klitschkos and Fury does. It's smart fighting.

Would still be a really good fight. And, depending on how the build goes, it might end up being a pretty big money fight, too (Wilder fights next on Showtime, Povetkin's next fight likely draws US attention also, Wilder likely has another fight, this time on ESPN, and then Wilder-Povetkin gets haggled over/hashed out for the end of the year).

Beyond that, Povetkin can box, Wilder is proving to the public that he can box too, and both guys walk into the fight with dynamite punching power and solid chins.

      getting excited thinking about it

Pretty interested to see how Povetkin will take Wilder's shots when they land. The long jab in the Russian's face and then that bama right hand over the top. Should be a very competitive fight and I hope it's actually made.

I agree easy work, Povetkin is a mean mother****er. And Wilder doesn't have the mass to lean on him and clinch.

Yeah it's pretty easy to fight tall against a guy like Stiverne. Arreola was fighting like he was 2 ft taller than Stiverne. Stiverne just waits for 1 big shot and lets you tee off on him in the meantime.

But there is the potential that Wilder uses Wlad's strategy to beat Povetkin. It definitely wouldn't be pretty but life isn't fair and Povetkin is quite short for a modern HW.
