Hard to fight all the top guys when:
1.) They are blatantly avoiding you
2.) You are fighting 4 times a year
3.) Promotor/contract/scheduling issues, etc.

Remember his other options at the time? ..Tureano Johnson, Heiland..? Remember everyone shitting on those possibilities saying Monroe would be the better test but GGG was afraid of "slick" styles or whatever? He picks the "better" option but still gets shit on.

I'm not saying Monroe or most of GGG's past opponents were great, challenging fights, but they were the best options at the time given the circumstances I mentioned above..

But, think about the position he is in for a moment. At least 2-3 VERY lucrative fights remain a possibility in his own division (Canelo, Cotto, etc). Close to unifying and becoming undisputed MW King. After all the work he's been doing at 160, why would he leave all that behind to fight lesser names at 168 while waiting around for Ward to finish his tune-ups?
