I question whether he is even a GGG fan personally, I always got the impression he simply hates Floyd. This dislike of Cotto now seems odd behaviour on his part, apparently he was a hardcore Cotto fan as he was Chino Maidana. I suspect he is just a bigot.

So many fans feel the same way about Cotto now, including me.

If he had acted with honour after beating Martinez by handing back the WBC belt and moving back down to SWW with his place in the MW lineage secure, he would be one of the most popular and respected fighters in the game right now, with fans from every nation and demographic.

As it is, deep down, I'm sure that even his own people are secretly ashamed of him now, and that is why they troll every GGG thread with their misdirected hatred.

By "Cotto's people," do you mean his inner circle or his fans?

If the former, I seriously doubt they are ashamed. Boxing fans tend to hyperbolize when it comes to boxers -- casting judgment and misusing words like "honor" and "shame" from the safety of their keyboards. People in the inner circle see things from a different perspective. They are exposed to pressure points and variables that the typical fan has never experienced.

If the latter, well, those fans need to get a life. I'm a big Cotto fan and would have liked him to have fought sooner after beating Martinez, but none of his choices have caused me any shame. He's a professional athlete, not my son.
