Comments Thread For: Roach Says Gomez is Back on Track in The Gym

After not coming anywhere near the contracted weight for his scheduled bout against Humberto Soto on May 9th at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Frankie Gomez was in the doghouse with Golden Boy Promotions, HBO (which was set to televise his network debut on that night as the co-feature to Saul Alvarez-James Kirkland) and trainer Freddie Roach.

But in the past week or so, he has gotten back in the good graces with Roach.

Seems like Gomez needs more individualized attention. Roach is to old and has to much on his plate to be chasing around some youngster. It makes sense for a prospect to want to go to an accomplished trainer like Roach but at the same time he could benefit more from a decent trainer that can focus on him more. Just a thought...

JaMarcus Gomez equals the Ryan Leaf of boxing.

Frankie is going to have the same issues his entire career. When a fighter is lazy and needs to be babysat, that fighter doesn't make it far.

BS posted an article stating that Gomez was in the 180 zone, and he's trying to squeeze down into 140? Is his talent being naturally heavier?

With a young fighter like Gomez it goes either 1 of 2 ways. He learns from his mistake and matures and reaches his potential. Or he is who he is and the more mistakes he makes people keep giving him second chances until he runs out of youth and chances. He's extremely talented and has all the tools to be star hopefully this was the wake up call he needed.

Also Roach is a great trainer but this kid might need a trainer who doesn't have such a huge roster of fighters and all the commitments that Roach has.
