I like Tony Harrison but I don't hear tons of dudes trumpeting him as the savior of the middleweight division. He is on a nice little run of stopping mediocre guys in less than 3 rounds.

He is from the USA, African American and stops guys. He is a prospect, but if the thread starter was correct everyone should know that name and be big upping that guy.

Who talks about him?
Gotcha, the TS didnt specify, but clear enough he meant doing these things at a top ten level. Hes got legit contenders **** scared walking into the ring
Tyson was so hyped because he was a heavyweight and he absolutely destroyed guys and most importantly, he looked the part..
GGG gets plenty of hype in America.. He is easily one of the top 10 biggest boxing stars in America right now... Tito Trinidad couldn't speak English and became one of the biggest stars in the sport in America..
Nobody is ever gonna match the tyson hype.. Tyson just took not just the sport or America by storm, he took the world.. By 1988 he had the world wide recognition of ali.. Nobody is gonna do that again anytime soon

Yea he is a prospect, but if what he was saying was true such a guy should be getting more shine. He is just another prospect though in the beating up faded vets stage of his career, that is actually pretty comparable to Tyson pre title.
I am sure if he gets to that next stage (actually being ranked top 10) while continuing his streak of stoppages you will hear the same things you hear getting said about Golovkin, just different people would be saying the stuff.
His career would have unfolded very different if he was American, hed have gotten way more opportunities much sooner, not forced to play 3rd string to Sturm or Zbik.
Still hes dominating a division, with only real challenge #2 p4p one division up. So hes done a lot to make up for the lost years, in under 3 years since he was given the opportunity on HBO
His career would've unfolded differently; at least by this far into his run, we would've found out how good he actually was.
Beyond that, being an American isn't a panacea tbh; he'd still need to have money backing him and a connected promotional push. Golovkin getting the opportunity on HBO likely had a lot to do with the novelty of being a 'foreign boogeyman', a la Provodnikov and Kovalev.
You remove that novelty and I doubt that the Golovkin hype ever gets going to begin with (no 'Soviet' amateur program, no German version of the 'Gary Russell Jr treatment' for the first 5 years of his career, facing a domestic market with an overall better talent level than what could be had in Germany, etc).

He obviously had the goods before his first ever US date, insiders knew. TR matchmaker Goodman had him #1 at MW even before Pavlik lost to Sergio. But he had no push behind him, till HBO kicked out Schaefer/Haymon and opened up to minor promoters, and GGG did the rest, destroying 6 Ring top tenners in under 3 years and having the rest cowering
If Golovkin was American and, eight years into his pro career, he was still fighting these soft touches and not even thinking on stepping up, he'd be utterly vilified.
And these Tyson comparisons need to stop: Willie Monroe Jr, on his feet and standing, decided to quit. Murray was stopped on his feet; as were Rubio, Geale, Adama, and Stevens. Golovkin got Macklin out of there, with a body shot no less, and did the same to Ishida.
Still, Rosado, Proksa, Fuchigami and Ouma also ended their fights on their feet.
Thanks to Youtube, people don't just have to let propaganda stand.
They were stopped on their feet before they were knocked unconscious.
Tell me what you think happens to Geale, Monroe, Rosado and Ouma if they were allowed to continue?
The only reason they ended on their feet is because they either called time themselves (Monroe/Geale) or the referee was merciful.
