Why would Golovkin be the A-side? Today was apparently Golovkin's biggest payday as a fighter ever, and it's still short of what Andre Ward pulled for the Rodriguez fight, by about half a million dollars (Golovkin's number, after two years of work, is what Ward picked up in his debut HBO fight).
You add that Ward was able to sell $700k worth of tickets for Ward-Dawson in Oakland and, unless I'm not looking right, there's no information available for any of the gate revenues for Golovkin's last 5 fights.
Golovkin has been the more active fighter, but he's not making bigger purses than Ward is and there's a question whether he's bringing more money than Ward at the box office.
If The Return of SOG: Ward-Smith ends up doing over $1m at the gate, you add another one to the Ward ledger.
Unless HBO puts some real money behind Golovkin, Team GGG wouldn't be allowed to dictate ****.
