Think anyone could have made him a star tbh. He has star power.

The key has been activity. He would never have been this big fighting twice a year.

And there is actually a demand to see Golovkin, there never was with Berto, which is why people would get pissed off when got paid a million dollars to fight a tune up on an undercard.

Berto was a guy that they tried to make into a star. Golovkin has done that for the most part on his own through his fighting style and his personality. People love watching him fight, he's always a topic of conversation when talking about potential big fights.

It's hard to hype guys when you get performances like Ward/Rodriguez and Rigo/Agbeko.

The hype is because GGG delivers everytime... People wanna see knockouts and Golovkin gives them that everytime..

Lots of salt in this thread. GGG is the man, how can you disrespect a guy who fights top 10 opposition three or four times a year and sends them all home early?

Even a lot of hardcore boxing fans complain about how boring these guys are to watch. Sorry but it doesn't make good TV for your audience to be yelling "hit him... HIT HIM!" at your star fighter for twelve rounds.

Agreed, his competition might not be all star quality at the moment but the hype surrounding him is the KO that he brings in the ring, this reminds of of a prince Naseem hamed.

Sure was. Think I'm lying? Check my post history, you'll see a thread I made about how happy I was when he lost to Ortiz

Boxing fans complaining about fighters that specialize in defense, are nothing casual fans.

I appreciate all styles in this sport, I recognize GGG isn't a typical come forward fighter, he actually has pretty decent defense and boxing ability, also one heck of a jab, but this sport doesn't need to be like UFC, I can find the same kind of quality fights at a bar brawl. Boxing is an art.

And I think a lot of you guys are just doing as you're told, Rigo isn't a boring fighter, he's had plenty of entertaining fights, he's also had some boring ones, all of a sudden HBO saids he's boring and everyone wants to hop on the bandwagon.

Guys like Ward, Rigo, Walters, Crawford etc.... Should be having their name promotes just as much as GGG since they all have much better resumes than GGG.

HBO has made GGG a star without making him fight anyone that actually had a shot at beating him. Like it or not they are catering to what casual fans want and its working for them and GGG.

Shame of it is he has so much skill that he would do very well with top p4p fighters. He may not win, but he wont fail to show up.
