'Fans' excuse, good reason to dislike a boxer?

Do you think it is a reasonable excuse to dislike boxers because of their fans? There are fans that may make you cringe and annoy you but is that a good reason to not support boxers even if they are good?

This extends well beyond boxing. Basically anything can have an annoying fanbase online. I try not to let it affect me, and honestly find it petty not to judge something on its own merits. Still an incredibly obnoxious fanbase will keep me from proclaiming my fandom at times.

I enjoy watching Mayweather and Pacquiao's fight despite their annoying fan base. I enjoy watching Golovkin despite some overrates him. I support Andre Ward, Amir Khan, Canelo and many others despite their fans.

The only times I lose respect for boxers are when they do or say something that is disrespectful or hurts boxing etc. Like Adrien Broner because he's very rude and isn't a very good boxer. I'm losing respect for Cotto because he is the main reason for holding the middleweight crown as a hostage. I use to support Quillen but he did so many things wrong. So on...

It's hilarious how one thread is leading to another thread which is leading to another thread.

Somewhat. Look at someone like Lucas Matthysse. I could never be a fan of this guy.
          1.He isn't that skilled.
2.He has literally some of the worst fans in the sport. Actually his fans are more of a reason for his hatred than the fighter himself since he hasn't actually done anything outside of the ring to warrant any hatred.
Too many Eastern European fans of eastern European boxers(See:Wlad, Loma, GGG, Kovalev) spend ALL THEIR DAYS hating on black fighters. Everyday. Without fail. It makes it harder to support those particular fighters but ****, skills trump everything else in my book so I do anyways though I try to avoid being associated with those types.

It's a terrible reason to dislike a fighter, but I know that I'm guilty of it myself. I think it's because we often look at the culture/background that something stands for or represents when we assess if we like things. Like music, for example. Some people will be prejudiced against certain genres - rap, for example - because of the culture it creates.

I guess a fighters fans is a sort-of-equivalent in boxing

However, I do try to separate a fighters fans/persona and the fighter inside the ring as much as possible.

Not a good reason. Most promoters and advisors worked together, the problem is they're protecting their fighters.

Man, I'm not black or white. I still support and enjoy watching black, white and asian boxers despite their fans so why shouldn't you?

It's not a good reason at all but at the same time, I've battled with that as much as I hate to say it.

Either a guy can fight or he can't, fans have no bearing on that.

Calling out ****** fan bs is not the same as actually disliking a fighter, even if you have to point out negative things to show why they are hypocrites. If you want to talk real about fighters you have to get past that stuff so you have to attack it and you are going to get attacked back.

That shouldn't effect how you generally feel about a fighter though because that fighter is not really involved, but some people can't patrician their feelings like that (probably impossible to do all the time). I learned that trick long ago, because catching feelings like that only costs money there is no money to be made there.
