But they were all naturally bigger men than him. The fact he gave one of the greatest MW's of all time in Hagler a tough fight is astonishing.

I dont have a problem with people saying Duran is ranked lower (I would have Leonard about even with him, maybe slightly higher) but to use the '4-1' statistic is pointless. He was 71-1 with an atg lightweight career already behind him when he fought SRL for the first time.

Meh, one of the most highly regarded boxer-puncher would be a better outlook. He wasn't super skilled or anything.

That he was capable of competing with those 3, besides Hearns of course, is incredible. His win over Leonard is one of the best wins in boxing history.

He probably had the greatest career of the 4. Leonard is his only competition.
I like this response the most I think... concise, to the point and it surely was remarkable.

1.He had success against 2 out of the 3 when he was outweighed and old (definitely gave Hagler a fantastic fight).
2.He is ranked highly for his lower weight success rather than him at higher weights because he was SO DAMN DOMINANT at LW.
3.He was literally out of his prime and still beating guys like Iran Barkley.
4.Incredibly skilled. His boxing IQ is honestly underrated.

Not really schooled. More like mocked and frustrated. It was a close fight when Duran quit, Leonard was up by 2 or 3 points probably. Why he quit, well, not even Duran seems to be able to tell anyone.

A lot of great points listed about Duran. No one mentioned that he was the only fight to go 15 rounds with Hagler when he was champ (one of the greatest ever, in his prime), while Leonard wouldn't fight unless it was 12 rounds.
Bottom line the man is a legend, a lightweight past his prime, moving up to fight some of the greatest fighters of all time (with no catch weights or any other handicaps). Someone tried to compare what Duran did to Mayweather (older fighter fighting 4 weight classes higher), but the difference is Pretty Boy cherry picks, makes all kinds of rules and didn't even let Maidana wear his gloves (also protested Manny's gloves before fight).

because most people rating the 4 horsemen are not rating them in greatness against each other, they're rating them in total general greatness. And Duran's achievements outdo anything that guys like Hagler for instance achieved. i.e. duran is more of a p4p great, but ranked against the actual 4 horsemen in a head to head ofcourse he'd be in last cus he got owned by them all
