If the WBC strips him, that simply means that the WBC will not collect a sanctioning fee for a Cotto/Alvarez fight or a Cotto/GGG fight or a Mayweather/Cotto fight. The WBC has no pride and isn't giving up its sanctioning fee for a principle. HBO can't prevent Cotto from doing anything.

The fight will take place as long as it is on Cotto's terms. That is the issue here.

Oscar is so desperate to show up Floyd in May and September, but he doesn't understand that Cotto is not gonna play the B-side b*tch role. Cotto is the champ, like it or not, and he's gonna call the shots. If Cotto says, "No, i'm fighting in December," who would Canelo fight in September, especially since 1) Oscar says Canelo will fight GGG in about 2 years (when GGG will be 35), and 2) Oscar is suing Haymon, so that stable is closed?

I was going to say the same thing. Cotto is going to assert his influence by demanding the fight take place in New York or Las Vegas in October or November. Cotto would have to knock Alvarez out cold just to lose a split decision in Texas.
