That would be badass... Considering he's the only Jamaican game in town, he should really play it up... There are so many good Jamaicans songs he could use... He'll probably come out with something god awful though (like all boxers).

You'd think that the tickets would be cheaper.

Puerto Rican Prospect Felix Verdejo Looking for 18th Win

Unbeaten lightweight prospect, Felix Verdejo (17-0, 13 KO’s) returns to the ring to showcase his wares against fellow undefeated boxer, San Antonio’s Ivan Najera (16-0, 8 KO’s), at the mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden in New York, on June 13.

Verdejo, who hails from San Juan, Puerto Rico, is highly regarded for his ability to finish his opponents quickly and efficiently. He’s currently riding a three-fight knockout streak and looks to continue his success against Najera.

As a young fighter, Verdejo was the winner of the 2012 American Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament, earning him a spot in the 2012 Olympic Games. In the Olympics, Verdejo advanced two rounds with solid victories over tough opponents before running into current WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko.

Lomachenko defeated Verdejo on points back when they were amateurs, but Verdejo remains undefeated as a professional to this day.

When you witness Verdejo’s fluid movements and maturity within the ring, it’s hard to fathom that he will just be turning 22 this May.

A dynamic boxer-puncher, Verdejo embodies the Puerto Rican fighting spirit much like those before him — Felix Trinidad, Hector Camacho and even current RING lineal middleweight champion Miguel Cotto.

But at a young age, Verdejo has a bright future ahead of him and is just realizing his full potential as possibly one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boxing gloves. He certainly has the physical gifts to achieve as much in the sport, if not more. The possibilities are endless.

Verdejo however, is content at taking things one fight at a time.

He’ll get the chance to reach a wider audience in his next bout, as he’ll be featured on HBO for the first time despite having competed at Madison Square Garden multiple times in his fledgling career.

With years of potential ahead of him, Verdejo will need another emphatic victory over Najera this June if he hopes to keep the spotlight fixated on him. With older generational talents like Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao already with one foot out the door, the sport of boxing needs kids like Verdejo to pick up the torch and keep the flame burning bright.

                  Verdejo will most certainly oblige.

                      Q & A With Nicholas Walters

Nicholas “The Axeman” Walters (25-0, 21 KOs) is training hard in preparation for the defense of his WBA featherweight title against Miguel Marriaga (20-0, 18 KOs) at Madison Square Garden in New York City on June 13th. In 2014, the Jamaican-born Walters burst into the boxing limelight with brutal knockout victories over Vic Darchynian and Nonito Donaire. Now, “The Axeman” will be facing the challenge presented by the Colombian Marriaga, who is little-known but said to be extremely dangerous. It will be a showdown between two unbeaten KO artists. It will also be a grudge fight in view of the fact that Walters lost to Marriaga in the pre-Olympic trials in 2008. Fight News asked Walters a few pointed questions regarding the upcoming battle.

How does it feel to be scheduled to fight in the Madison Square Garden?

It’s an honor and an incentive to put on a great show.

Do you remember your fight with Marriaga in 2008 as an amateur?

I don’t remember the fight and I don’t remember the guy. If the record books say I lost the fight, OK, I’ll accept that. But this is not the amateur ranks anymore and I’m the world champion.

You watched videos of Miguel, right? What’s your opinion of him?

Good fighter, has skills and can punch, he’s hungry. Videos only tell you so much. Once in the ring I’ll figure him out,

Between the two of you, you have an 87% KO ratio. That’s a lot of dynamite. Any chance the fight will go the limit?

I’m going in there aiming for the knockout. I want to stop this kid and send a big, loud message to all the featherweights out there.
