    Q & A With Miguel Marriaga

Featherweight title challenger Miguel Marriaga (20-0, 18 KOs) of Cartagena, Colombia is largely unknown in the United States where he has fought only once – an impressive 6 round stoppage of Christopher Martin in 2014. On June 13th, he’s facing WBA champion Nicholas Walters and some boxing pundits see Marriaga as a sleeper that presents a real danger to the reigning champion. The two have met before and Marriaga won a decision over the Jamaican at the pre-Olympic Trials in 2008. Now the 27-year-old Colombian is saying that on June 13th history will repeat itself. Fight news contacted Marriaga with questions about the upcoming battle.

Nicholas Walters says he doesn’t remember the fight he lost to you. Do you remember it?

He doesn’t remember me, does he? Well, I do remember beating him and I’m doing it again on June 13th.

What do you think of Walters?

A big puncher, a quality boxer. There’s a reason he is the champion. It will be an honor for me to beat him.

You see weaknesses in his game?

What I see I’m not telling you. I’m keeping it for the night of the fight.

You guys both have impressive KO ratios. Any chance the fight going to the scorecards?

No. The fight is not going 12 rounds because I’m going to knock him out.

Who is your trainer and your promoter?

My trainer is Samuel Gomez. My promoters are Ricardo Maldonado Jr and Tutico Zabala

Anything else you want to say?

On June 13th, Miguel Marriaga will knock Nicholas Walters out and become the new WBA featherweight champion. And I will dedicate this victory to my country, Colombia.

I think Walters does remember Marriaga in the AMs.. they fought in an early Olympic Qualifier.

God bless Najera's soul because Verdejo will separate it from his body

Glad marriaga is confident because this isn't an amateur fight and Walters has an axe to grind.

Can't wait for this card on Saturday. This smells like a boxing after dark classic.

Marriaga is going for the kill and not giving a **** about the rude boy axeman.

Verdejo fight has me worry. The kid got the goods but something tells me he can't take a punch.

                Nicholas "Axeman" Walters

                Offense-9
                Defense-8
                Power-10
                Movement-8
                Speed-8
                Stamina-8
                Chin-9
                Machismo-9

Handed Donaire a brutal knockout...carries a wooden axe to the ring...great head movement to counter punching...can take a good shot

Prediction: KO of Marriaga, mid rounds

I think his chin is more questionable. Donaire had him BADLY hurt in that fight he lost.

He didn't go down though; it was like Soto Karras catching Thurman in round one. Stunned him for a second. To me it shows he has a good chin.

Can't really compare the two. Thurman got wobbled mid round and recovered with a dude still throwing, walters was wobbled at the end of the round and recovered on a stool, if i remember correctly.
