Mr. Gerbasi, Thank you for telling the true story of Tony Ayala. Maybe now more boxing fans will be aware of the monster that he was.

I saw him fight once. I had no idea who he was and remember the commentators saying he had just got out of prison. He looked well out of shape and i thought he was gonna get killed by his opponent. Its his only fight i saw and he definitely left an impression. He was very accurate, hardly missed a shot and had great power in both hands.

          A waste of great talent

The first I heard of his death...I started watching boxing seriously in March of 83 when he went to jail, all you ever heard about was future legend...regardless, good riddance

I haven't seen a single person call this guy a legend. Maybe his close family members said it on twitter or something?

You should be ashamed of yourselves for writing such negative stuff about someone who is dead. Life gave him his, and took life away from him. Why shat on him now? All of the negative comments towards him are just as out of bounds. Could have been the devil, the man still deserves to rest in PEACE. You all are gutless.

Was a mini legend in the J.O. program. Had everything right in front of him but was out of control. I remember being on a card with him at the Playboy Club in Jersey and they (his people) locked him in his room on the third floor so he couldn't roam around.
Boxing is a brutal life and it draws some brutal people into it. 99% of the fans really have no idea what it takes to try and KO another man, beat him up to the point of a stoppage. Today were use to seeing Wlad and Floyd play tag and run and cover up and hold! Go watch a Russian Rocky fight or GGG trying to eliminate their opponents then stop and think how you would go about doing it!
                  Thats right.......you wouldn't!
Some men can control their rage others bring it with them all the time.
Boxing can be a savior for some, others its just a road!

                  Ray.
