Ayala could have been a champion if he had stayed clean in his first run up to contender status. However, it would have been against a selected champ and not against the 3 guys that would have beaten him, Leonard, Mike McCallum, and Duran. They would have handed him his first defeat. I believe he was scheduled to fight Duran but got into trouble.
