    Golovkin-Canelo Is the Next Super-Fight?

The Golovkin-Canelo fight is apparently just a single fight away. That fight between Golovkin and Willie Monroe is going to be fought on 16th May. If Golovkin win this fight, which he most probably would, there won’t be many hurdles in the fight expect matching their respective weights.

Do you think it would be a Super Fight if it ever happened?

Cotto sounds like he's about to be facing Mayweather then.

I'd much rather see Cotto vs Canelo, it'd be competitive at least, anything with GGG facing anyone other than a super module is a mismatch, period.

I'm not sure if this is superfight status yet, Canelo v Cotto is bigger, Khan v May or Pac is bigger.

Yeah mainstream wise I don't think it's a super fight, and in fact, it's probably not even close. Canelo qualifies as a big name in the sport and has one of the sport's biggest fan bases, so there's that. But the mainstream has no idea who Gennady is.

That said as far as the boxing world goes, to the hardcore fan, it's obviously a MONSTER fight. It's probably the biggest fight out there in the sport. I don't know what else is out there that tops it.

Agree with this. In the boxing world it's a massive fight. Beyond that probably not. It would sell very well if it happened though.

Man it would be a great fight. Winner=instant superstar and pretty much a guaranteed KO ending.

              super fight?
              no way.
headliners don't speak english. nobody knows who gennady golovkin is.

big, exciting PPV? perhaps. a million buys? doubt it, but it would be nice.

they'll really need to build golovkin before he can help alvarez sell a million ppvs.

The fight itself wouldn't be huge to the mainstream but the winner would become huge.

Canelo beating Golovkin=instantly returns to (and possibly surpasses) pre-Floyd hype.
Golovkin beating Canelo="That one guy from that Borat place" instantly becomes household name wherever Canelo is (Mexico, So Cal, etc.)

I think Dela Hoya's right, this fight is 2 years away. Alvarez will probably have a couple fights with Cotto and a few other guys before Golovkin. Hopkins was 36 when he finally got a big fight with Trinidad, Golovkin would be 35 by the time he fought Alvarez.

Hopefully Golovkin finds some other big fights prior to that. Doesn't look like Froch, but maybe Ward and Lemieux.
