people didn't buy this fight expecting Mayweather to be different. They bought the fight expecting Pacquiao to be able to produce a different result.

For perspective sake, let's take a look at Marcos Maidana's relative success in losing to Mayweather by majority decision. You know how they say never hook with a hooker? Just like you wouldn't try to out-hook a hooker, you don't try to outbox a boxer, which is essentially what trainer Freddie Roach and Pacman attempted to do Saturday night. Ill-advised.

Also, a huge part of the fight being devoid of excitement and compelling drama, lay in Pacquiao's dismal offensive output. His volume (a clear strength of his) was anemic. Maidana landed 221 blows on Floyd, threw nearly 1,000 punches and thereby made their initial bout not only close but exciting. Pacman threw 35 a round, then blamed a shoulder injury for his loss (which made no sense considering he believed he won).

Missing 81% of your punches means you were left whiffing at air... I'm not a guy that gets too caught up in compubox punch stats, but in this case they reflect what my eyes saw. ESPN's Skip Bayless can sip the sore loser koolaid that Pacquiao and Roach served up at the post fight presser, but no objective observer could see 7 rds of that fight for Pacquiao. To assert that they won was a lack of class and sportsmanship. Plain and simple. The bout wasn't that close. According to Bayless, a fight is scored for the aggressor. I'm surprised someone that has been covering boxing as long as him would say something so patently false. The four scoring criteria are effective aggression, clean punching, ring generalship and defense. Ineffective aggression does not help you on the scorecards.

You can't miss 81% of your punches and claim your aggression was effective. That's INEFFECTIVE aggression. Defense: a guy landed nearly half of his power shots on you (48%), so you cannot argue you were defensively effective. Clean punching? Other than the 4th and 6th rounds, Manny was in single digits as far as punches landed, while Floyd was in double digits. The ring generalship had to favor Mayweather considering Pacquiao got off what had to be close to a career low in punches thrown.
