Comments Thread For: Frank Bruno Feels Mayweather Can Go On Until He's 50

Former WBC heavyweight Frank Bruno hailed Floyd Mayweather as a "craftsman" of his trade after his dominant unanimous points victory over Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather was too classy for his Filipino opponent as the judges awarded him the 48th win of his career with scorecards of 118-110 116-112 116-112 and in truth, it was an easy night for the American, who picked Pacquiao off at will.

Bruno told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme: "In this generation you have to go very, very far before you can be a skilled craftsman, businessman, technician, professional and a king in knowing his craft.

No, he can't. Hopkins did it because he started late. Mayweather has been boxing professionally for almost 20 years, he's declining very noticeably, and he's plain sick of the sport. He couldn't go another 12 years, even if he wanted to.

Lol @ you dumb fcks who actually believe Mayweather will retire after September...or even after he matches Marciano's 50-0.

Floyd will fight well into his 40's. Watch what I tell you.

Even Mayweather himself recognises that his body isn't what it used to be. I actually found that telling as it shows acceptance on his part. After the Maidana fight he showed traces of denial when rating his performance a C and stating he could do better. At this press conference, he openly said "Well I'm nearing my 40s."

Because he is still at the top of the sport, people don't realise how much he has fallen. His boxing IQ allows him to set up his punches, but he no longer has the body to seize opportunities as they present themselves.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if he did retire after his next fight. What else does he need to achieve?

I doubt that Floyd cares about breaking Marciano's record.

Floyd has adknowledged his body is breaking down since 2007. That's why he took a break.

Go and rewatch Mayweater-Hatton 24-7, he talks about it there when he see's the specialist for his hand and joint problems. Interesting stuff.

Floyd's so far passed it now it's ridiculous and pretty astonishing that he's still on top of the sport.

No way could he fight until 50. He would struggle to make 40.

It's impossible to fight at the top level for 30 years. You just can't do it.

All the fighters with the best longevity always come to the end after 20 or so years. That isn't a coincidence.

Mayweather, Pacquaio, Hopkins, Moore, etc etc etc the list goes on and on.

                Exactly.

His heart isn't in it and hasn't been for years IMO. Probably since the Mosley fight was the last fight that he seemed interested and happy to be there in the build up.

At this stage he doesn't want to fight at all. He wants to blast through his contract and retire. He's said that since the day he signed it.

Only way he will continue is if he ends up broke and needs money.

I did remember that but I raise a distinction between knocks piling up and old age literally standing in the way of doing what he used to be able to.

                    Abit of both.

At this stage he's well into decline in both areas.

But just highlighting that he was always seeing his body breaking down then it was obviously just the beginning though.

The Floyd today is a shell. Night and day to the Floyd of old.
