Maidana gets so much respect from me as he has been one of the few fighters to go in vs Mayweather and put himself on the line.
I agree that Manny should have went out on his shield but I'm sure Mayweather's punches stinged him a lot more than they did to Maidana. Maidana came in around 168 the first time or something completely ******ed like that. He was built to walk through Mayweather's shots for that fight.

Maidana and Castillo are the only two fighters to come close to beating Mayweather.

Very true but regardless of Maidana's weight he proved himself that night. When your getting hit flush with straight rights on the way in its very easy to react, back off and reset looking for another way to approach which is what Manny did all night. Maidana just said **** it and walked him down. He did everything you could of expected from him in that first fight. Brawling, dirtyness, wide punches, awkward stance. You could sense that he was there to win and was giving it everthing.

I feel Manny let himself down. He left something in the ring. At the end of the fight he's almost completely unmarked and I'm left thinking was that all he could give? I mean throwing less than Mayweather? There is no way you can possibly win if your throwing less than an amazingly gifted defensive fighter who also happens to have an extremely high punches landed %. That cant have been Roach's gameplan. I think Manny got stuck in a bad rhythm and couldn't adapt. There were a few rounds where just a few flurries could have swung it in his favor. I was screaming for him to do something.

"May 6, 2007 - Mayweather was favored on one scorecard 116-112 and 115-113 on a second. De La Hoya was ahead 115-113 on the third scorecard."

Like I said, had Oscar thrown his jab more later in the fight, he would have won a split decision.

Its Oscar though he always hits the stamina wall.

Maidana was really the only fighter in recent memory to get Floyd out of his comfort zone.

Forget gameplan. Maidana had the right MINDSET to beat Floyd. He had no respect, never touched gloves with him, did a few dirty tactics and took some shots to rough him up.
