  • Comments Thread For: Klitschko Coach: Jennings Will Be Heavyweight Champion

High praise was given to Philadelphia's Bryant Jennings for his performance against Wladimir Klitschko last weekend. In a losing effort, Jennings managed to give Klitschko on of his better challenges in recent times. The man in the corner of Klitschko knew that when they signed to fight Jennings, it was not going to be an easy out.

“He’s a very strong competitor and I know Jennings was going to be a very tough from the start,” Johnathan Banks, the trainer of Wladimir Klitschko told Boxingscene.com after the fight.

Based on his performance, he should be able to pick up a belt down the line.

Jennings went the 12 rounds, employed a lot of movement and defense but lost a lopsided decision - so that means he's gonna be HW champ some day?

I'm sorry but I'm not sold on Jennings. He's a great athlete, he moves well in ring, is very agile, has a bit of boxing skill but he doesn't do one or more things that really set him apart from all the other contenders in the game. He doesn't have that "x-factor," like Deontay Wilder. With Wilder, he has that tremendous power and a killer instinct that would make a young George Foreman proud.

Also, there's influx of up-and-coming talent into the division with Wilder, Joseph Parker, Tony Joshua, Hughie Fury, et al. I'm not sure Jennings beats any of those guys.

These two finally fought? Good why are people still writing about it? Im sure Klitchko got a UD and there were no knockdowns, cuts, facial swellings or audible punches. Just please stop writing about Klitchko's tomato can fights and/or hyping his unknown opponents.

GOD DAMN YOU SILLY ASS AMEMRICANS. This sports is biased in just about every way possible lol. Jennings had some moments in the fight but Wlad clearly closed the show and almost TKO'd Jennings. If Wlad threw that straight right earlier in the fight I think he could have got Jennings out of there.

I don't want to critisize Jennings but he aint no philly fighter! He did have the forebearance to challenge Klitschko with a high guard on the outside and to try to fight inside...but he doesn;t know how to really fight in deep and he fought conservatively, not really to win.

having said that, he did do well defensively and in at least trying to make a fight of it.

Unfortunately I have to agree with this post in principle, though in tone, try to imagine being in Jenning's shoes. The guy does not really have any weapons to speak of. Yet he did manage to go the distance. But damn! oh never mind.

I really want to see fury have his crack.

I was quite high on Jennings from watching him come through on the Adamek cards for Main Events, I held him in higher esteem than Wilder for quite a while too, it was the Tupou and Fedesov fights I figured he'd have issues with a higher workrate at world level and question marks over his durability and chin, I feel those were answered last weekend.

For me Jennings is a more rounded fighter, still lacking a lot of experience though. Certainly a somewhat lack of power. He makes up for these with stamina, durability, chin. He will be a handful for any of those guys you mention.

It is a shame he rebuffed the Pulev fight on the grounds of a 'lowball' that is realistically a fight he could have won on evidence from last weekend. He has a lot left to offer the division, I'm in full favor of him getting another title shot down the line against somebody such as Chagaev, Wilder... I expect he will struggle to get opponents like Pulev did, he could do with a big investor behind him like Povetkin has to get him the fights against higher ranked guys to help get himself back in position for a title tilt.
