  • Comments Thread For: Saunders, Eubank Jr. Pulled From 5/9 Wembley Bill

The show will go on in Wembley Arena on May 9, but without the two leading attractions on the card. Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Jr.—ring rivals who were scheduled to appear in separate bouts—have withdrawn from the card, as both fighters angle for a potential rematch.

A press statement from Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions confirmed that the rest of the May 9 card will remain intact. Frank Buglioni, Bradley Skeete and Mitchell Smith now highlight what's left of the show, all appearing in separate bouts. [Click Here To Read More]

It's a shame IMO. I would've liked the rematch to wait for 12 months or so. If Saunders lost to Lee, he could still fight Eubank afterwards. I thought the first fight came a bit too soon in Eubank's development, and he should spent the next year fighting good but not elite opposition rather than going straight back at a guy who he was too green to be facing only 5 months ago.

I hope Warren doesn't make too much of this being an 'interim title unification fight'. Not something that is going to look appealing on a poster.

Warren eluded to this happening a month ago. Eubank/Saunders rematch has more money at stake than the Lee/Saunders title fight. Once this fight is signed expect Lee's injury to clear up and he'll sign to fight Golovkin in Ireland a few weeks later.

Warren is seriously over-estimating the worth of some of these fights. He'll likely try to put this rematch in a stadium.

            Lee/Golovkin would be good.

But I was really looking forward to seeing BJS/Lee, possibly followed by a BJS/Jr rematch, for the real WBO world title.

Eubank should win comfortably if it happens again.... Billy is a good fighter but clearly struggles to fight 12 hard rounds. Surely Eubank has learnt he can't be laid back and give away early rounds this time.

A card with Golovkin v Lee and Eubank v Saunders rematch would be great.
