It was the most uncomfotable Wlad has looked for a while. That said it's hard to give Jennings more than a couple of rounds. Certainly no need for a rematch.

Wlad has basically been a shot fighter since Brewster KO'd him....Steward did an amazing job prolonging his career by teaching him this awful, boring style of fighting... not fighting in America for years also allowed him to use this tactic with impunity, and make tons of $$ in the process. Vitaly on the other hand is one of the greatest champions ever IMO. I really think fights like Benn v McClellan and Eubank v Watson had a lot to do with this change in attitude and eventual acceptance/glorifying of safe boxing (in fact, sports across the board are prioritizing safety)....the average boxing fan used to want to see a skilled beat down...now lots of fans look at chess matches - 'hit and not get hit at all costs'.

champ protects a weak chin, and the dudes who he fights protect themselves from the clinch and lean.
i don't blame either. it's rational for them to hold in this case.
we need a HW champ who isn't protecting an awful chin with his 250 lb body, and instead trying to knock somebody out with it.

It's like he said in the interview, a shorter guy tried to dig underneath him and that's what happens. NOW maybe if Wlad was ****** and got into a shell when a fighter got in close, his opponents could tee off on him like he were Joshua Clottey, but that's not how it works.
With that said, Wlad did say in one of the interviews that fighters are studying him and that he needs to evolve. I don't know if it's possible at age 40 but who knows.
I saw him throw a few Kovalev style jabs to Jenning's body. Maybe he should start working on that and mix up his jab a lot more. Its not like he needs it in every fight but styles make fights and being stoic didn't work against this type of style.

Actually I disagree. His last fight (vs Pulev) was one of Wlad's best fights, and I blame Jennings for the outcome of this one. Jennings was running away and digging under Klitschko's armpits even more than Eddie Chambers did.
So I actually don't think that Wlad's age showed, but that Jennings learned and improved Eddie Chambers' running.
Having said that, what this fight showed was that Wlad still has problems with boxers who run away/lean away/duck away (Ibragimov, Chambers, Haye, Jennings).Last edited by hweightblogger; 04-26-2015, 09:36 AM.
